Hello ...I don't know if I'm doing this right but I'm just trying to VENT here . I'm a newbie at this website and to the "Atkins diet" Ive been on the Atkins diet for 8-9 days and gained 2 lbs.. What can I be doing wrong ? I have not given up coffee with caffine I still drink 1 cup a day. Could this really make a difference? I'm ready to give up but yet I hear so many postive things about the diet. I read how medications can pervent weight loss but I'm on NO medications. ANY ADVICE before I throw in the towel ? Thanks for your time .

Oh, Lisa. I'm so sorry you are having a rough time!
Could you possibly post 2 or 3 days' worth of menus for us to look at?
Usually we find something that a newbie is missing. Be as honest as you can and include everything you drink.
Also, try to list the approximate times of each meal/snack.
We really will try to help you, but we need a little more information first...
Hang in there,

Summer

Also, please indicate where you are in your menstrual cycle, your exercise routine, how much salt you eat, and how much water you drink.

We'll figure it out!

Before I post my menu's , I want to thank everyone for there support. I'm so happpy that I came across this site. Thank you to the people who replied. I think If I didn't get a response I definately would of threw in the towel. I'm not going to now ! It's amazing what a support system can do .
Breakfast:
2 eggs with cheese, onion, salsa sauce, and a few pieces of green pepper( sometimes I will have a few slices of bacon)I also drink a large Tim hortons coffee (double cream) 1 splenda
Lunch:
Tuna with a salad, I eat a high fat low carb dressing with the salad. I will have 1 glass of water with lunch .
Dinner:
Salad, with onions, peppers, cucumber, tomatoe's, green and black olives , low carb dressing .
I will have some brocolli with butter
1 chicken breast, I usually BBQ the chicken with lemon pepper
I will have another glass of water with this.
I have about 3 glasses of water a day, maybe 16-20 oz
I don't add extra salt to my food .
Snacks:
Sometimes at night I will have a cup of tea with cream.
If I'm hungry I will have some cheese and Kolbassa or a pepperette.
Thanks again,
Lisa

Your first problem is the water - increase it to about 100 ounces per day!

Second, be careful about very salty meats - they can keep you holding water.

The coffee shouldn't make a difference, but it's definitely a YMMV thing...I'd try leaving it out for a week and see if it makes a difference.

Finally, be careful to not eat too many tomatoes and onions (including the salsa). While they're good veggies, they are higher in carbs and some people have to be VERY careful about the quantity they eat.

Hope this helps!

Thank-you! As much as I hate drinking it , I will make an effort to drink more water.
I also wanted some advice on this bread that my mother picked up in the states. The company name is "NATURAL OVENS BAKERY" LO-CARB BREAD It claims there is 3g of net carbs per slice. Can I eat this during induction ? Has anyone heard or had this bread?

Lisa, I'd stay away from it on Induction. You should be getting ALL of your carbs from vegetables and dairy right now.

And honestly...some people find low carb breads to be a trigger for cheating, so be careful when adding it into your WOE.

Lisa:

You asked, and here's my response:

Breakfast:
As to the cheese, is it the real kind or the processed kind? Stick with real colby, cheddar, swiss, colbyjack (yanno...the aged kind) and not the processed pasturized kind. Also note that you should limit yourself to only 4 ounces of cheese each day.
Onions are high glycemic foods, as are tomatoes, which brings us to the "salsa sauce". I'm assuming you mean salsa. Most salsas have sugar in them. Check labels, read the ingredients, check carb contents.
Bacon: check to see that it contains no sugar and, personally, I have to lmit myself on the pork because I tend to retain water because of the salt. I only eat pork about twice each month.
Tim Horton's coffee is delicious. Make sure the cream they are using is heavy whipping cream, and not Cremora or some other non-dairy creamer, or cream with sugar added.

Lunch:
The tuna sounds fine as is the high fat dressing. Are you eating carrots and tomatoes in the salad? If so, don't. They are high glycemic foods.

Up your water. Drastically.

Dinner:
Again, ix-nay on the onions and tomatoes.
Broccoli is great with the butter.
Now, when you say BBQ, you're not talking about BBQ from the bottle, are you? That's nothing but sugar and corn syrup and you don't wanna ingest that at all. Not now, not ever. Make your own when you're losing nicely.

Up your protein and veggies.

Snacks:
Kolbassa...are you referring to Keilbasa? As in, Polish Sausage? Please check the label, m'dear. Those sausages have a lot of carbs, depending upon brands. If you're not referring to the Polish Sausage I'm thinking of, please forgive me. Pepperette...is that like pepperoni? Don't eat that just now because it's a processed food loaded with sodium. Instead, eat some more protein from its natural state (well...cook it first. Don't go bite a cow on the leg or anything like that).
Again...limit yourself to 4 ounces of cheese per day.

Go to the newbies section and read the post "possible helpf for newbies" and make sure you count each and every morsel of food that passes your lips.

You'll be able to have the onions and carrots and tomatoes and other high glycemic foods later. You said you were frustrated and ready to chuck it all and I'm just offering some suggestions to get the weight on the downward slope.

My two cents...

NO... I don't use "BBQ sauce" I BBQ the meat on the grill ! We Canadians call the grill a Barbeque AKA (BBQ)

I don't eat carrots butI have been eating Tomatoes(very little) . Also, I don't eat Polish sausage I eat extra lean Kolbassa. There is no nutritional information on the pkg so I guess I shouldn;t eat it .I'm eating way too much chesse too .. Thanks again !

I was curious about Kolbassa and looked up some details. It seems to be a bit different from kielbasa or polish sausage. Though I think it is polish in origin or at least central european. Seems kolbassa is higher in carbs than regular polish sausage but lower in calories and fats. This link has some comparisons.

I don't know if I was allowed but when I needed a sweet dessert I made the mini cheese cakes. It satisfied my yearning for all that sugar.
