Default New here, Please may I join you.

Hi everyone, may I join you here in the 100 lb. club. I am in needing to lose 100 lbs. this year, not only for myself but for my health to. I am currently at 245 lbs. and my goal is 145 lbs.
I just began on low carb today and have been reading up on it and researching all I can on it to.
would love your help with it and anything to help me along.
i am 5 ft. 7 inches tall so i feel 145 will be a good weight for me. What do you all think about that? I have not found a wt. chart yet to see what I need to really weigh but that is waht I was once over 30 yrs. ago and was very sastified with it.
looking forward to getting to know all of you better.

Check out this body mass indicator calculator. This one is for women. There's a link for one for men.
    http://www.halls.md/body-mass-index/bmi.htm

Every person's body is different. I'm only 5' 4" and my doctor said he'd be happy if I could get down to 160. Originally, that was my goal. But after looking at this BMI calculator, I've changed that to 145...which will, just barely, put me in the "normal" range.

For my height, the low range of "normal" is 117. For me, that's just too thin. I weighed that when I was 21 or 22 and looking back at photos and thinking about comments that were said, that was just too darn thin for my body

So...use the BMI calculator as a guide...and then let your body and health be your final decision maker.

Welcome, Sunny!!! We're glad to have you join us!!

Which plan are you following? There are a lot of websites that have weight/height charts, and they will give you an idea of a ballpark figure. But in my opinion, what feels best to you is what's right.

Welcome, Mary. You are certainly welcome to join us here at the 100 forum. We have a lot of fun here and this is a great place (the whole site) to get good information.

I think you'll probably be able to figure out what your own personal ideal weight is when you have gotten a bit closer to it. Bodies change so much with age. 145 at 5'7" sounds good but you may find that 160 or some other number is more comfortable once you reach it. I picked my number kind of randomly by what would just take me out of officially overweight as according to the charts. But I know when I get close I will know much better.

Glad to hear you are reading up on things. That's the best way to start.

Hi Sunny -- I'm 5'6" - and my weight chart says 155 is a healthy weight for me, so 145 might be a bit on the skinny side! ;-) Even if you decide that 160 is the weight you want to be - your still welcome! ;-) Everyone on the board here is really awesome and very supportive.

About body weight - I recently read that bones finish filling in during the twenties and early thirties. So we are going to be heavier while possibly wearing the same size as when we were teens or early twenties.

Also, if we exercise we gain muscle which is heavier than fat so again we will end up heavier at a healthy body size.

I had thought I should get down to 125 (I'm 5' 4" - barely) but with those two things in mind I have no idea where I'll land.

I checked that site out Melissa gave and it says that my ideal weight is 180 lbs. and that i had a body mass of 38.4.
Have they changed the weight charts or something because it use to be for my height it would be 145-150 lbs.
So maybe i do not need to lose as much as my doctor told me to do after all.
What do you all think of 180 lbs.?

Exactly what is body mass? is that fat?

So ok, I know I have alot to learn but heck i am new here.

Did they change the weight chart over the years or what. My ideal weight use to be when i was younger at 135-145. Now its 180...

I still set my goal to 145 lbs though, just think how thin i will look. CAN'T WAIT.
