Default HOLY COW! I have to share...

Staying on Atkins can get costly....meat is a large portion of what we eat...and it's GOOD! Well, grocery bills can add up...and I found something I would LOVE to share! There's a website called grocerygame.com - it's basically a list of grocery stores (HEB, KROGER, RANDALL'S) that compares the sales ads and utilizes the coupons found in the newspaper. They started out in the Houston area, and are branching out - so you might check to see if they are doing it in YOUR area. But to give you an idea...I went to the grocery store tonight and picked up $95 dollars worth of food - by the time I finished the coupons, and in store ads, and in store sales - $49!!! Almost 50% off my bill.

The concept is that you buy in bulk...I bought 6 things of mushrooms ($1 per 8 oz container) and threw them in a Freezer bag and will freeze them. I bought 3 whole chicken fryers (about $3 each at .55 cents a pound)....and sausage...and hotdogs....and pepperoni ($1 per container)...and chicken breasts...and broccoli crowns (10 lbs for $1 each) which will be frozen too.

It's awesome! I'm so psyched up about it that it's ridiculous. So - I had to share!

Hope it helps!
Dee

Hey, Dee....I'll have to check that out..we have Kroger and Tom Thumb (Randall's) and Albertson's (which I hate) here. That's a great savings tool. You did good. I spend between $90 and $150 on groceries for the 3 of us and pets every week! I could use some more ways to save.

Thanks Dee! At the price of meat this kind of thing is important.

Definitely Rob. The amount of chicken stored in my fridge is ridiculous - but now I have enough for multiple uses. Hopefully the new Hurrican Stan will not stop by Houston for a visit.

BTW - if anyone signs up at grocery game.com - put me down as a referer - deerutz@ev1.net -- I think I get a discount month or something. ;-)

There's also some REALLY good info on there about storage of the 'bulk' purchases. I got a great deal on Carb Freedom yogurt, picked up 15 of those suckers and threw 1/2 of them in the freezer... Mhhhmmmm good! ;-) And they won't go bad. *yippee*

Good find Dee! Won't help much here in Vegas :( Only one store chain on the list. And they are one of the most expensive in the area. Almost never go there.
Looks like it works well for other areas though.

That's part of the REALLY cool thing Tom (as long as it ain't HEB)....Randall's is probably the most expensive around here....I normally go to Walmart for groceries....with the discounts, it makes it worth it. VERY worth it.

The HEB aside bit - every HEB is a 'neighborhood' HEB, and sometimes the listings in the grocerygame.com and what's on sale in YOUR local neighborhood HEB isn't the same. So you gotta watch that one.

That's okay, Tom....when we all come to your house to party and experience Vegas, we will bring our own food, okay? By the way, when is the get-together? Just kidding!

On "The Biggest Loser" tonight, they were taken to Vegas for some gambling and competetion. I'll wave at the TV Thursday night when I watch CSI

I do most of my shopping at Kroger and have gotten several items free when they rang up the wrong price.

Rhalvahn: You said you froze yogurt? In the same container that you buy it in? We can't get lc yogurt in Canada, but I'm heading to the states this weekend and I could stock up and freeze it.

Yep....makes for a great desert! And research shows that probiotic bacteria can survive the freezing process, so freezing yogurt will not diminish its health benefits. Danon says you can as well: Storing Yogurt . My daughter has gogurt in those tube things....we stick them in the freezer for her so they are still cold by the time she eats lunch....

I eat mine frozen...everything I've found says that if you thaw it the texture is changed...not sure in which way...but it means I can have low carb yogurt (that I got on sale!) without playing high dollar prices.

When I finish moving I need to do some MAJOR shopping. I will go to that site and if I join I will definitely use you as a referral. I'm always looking for ways to save.
