oh eddie.. seriously..if ya dont OVER COOK em till they are grey and mush..
but rather steam a bit till green and purdy... then add some oil and almost burn em... (i use chipotle and saltnpeppa... with some garlic..

i just have em in a dish and can snack on em when i want during the day...

bacon grease makes um yummy too..

i just read if you slice a bit into the stem it makes them cook better too..

tell the truth..it was my PICTURE that turned the corner ...right? *L*

Whatever you do, make sure you put a little brown on 'em whether you roast them or pan cook them. That makes them actually sweet.

I did the cross-wise cut in the stem thing for years, Kim. Then I got sick of the hassle and found they cook the same even if you don't cut them.

I just got back into town and found this thread. How dare those brussels sprouts haters call them weeds!

Now, if you want something that really tastes like weeds, get okra. (shudder) (gag).
They put it in gumbo, and it tastes like weeds; they bread it and deep fry it, and it tastes like weeds; they pickle it, and it tastes like pickled weeds. I'm making myself ill thinking about it, so I think I'll go eat some of the brussels sprouts I just steamed, to make me feel better.

WOW I just found this thread!!! I can't be left out of this one!!!!

Sven, what an awesome link to some wunnerful recipes I gotta try!!! THANKS!!!!! Gotta thank Brussels for giving us these wonderful, green, babies. Vive Les Petit Choux!!!!!!!!!

Kim, that link messed up my puter, froze it all up...........grrrrrrrrrrr.....anyone else having any problems with it. What was it anyway????

Maggie, awesome pic of our beloved veggie. I bow down to it in praise and glory. Gotta go get me some more TODAY!!!!!!!!!

Nita, too funny!!! I am not an okra lover and have only had them breaded back in the day or in soups. Can't say as I would put them at the top of my list. DH HATES them, so they're not usually on the radar screen.

LOBS UNITE!!!!!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, I got to the store and found some FRESH, UNSPRAYED BS and am roasting them as I type!!!! They are going to be D-lectible and D-lish!!!!!!

Um, for you officianados, could I nuke them for a bit and THEN roast them to speed up the process or would that ruin their sweet reaction to the baking???? I JUST can't wait!!!!

Thumbs down Re: Brussels Sprouts Lovers of the World, UNITE!

Ohh puhleeeease!!

If you folks want to dilude yourselves into actually LIKEING brussel sprouts, have a good time. These evil little balls are no doubt nutritious, but don't try to pretend they taste good. I know people can convince themselves about a lot of things, but this is ridiculous. Can't you just enjoy them in the privacy of your own homes? Do you have to shove em into MY face already??!!
How about "Don't ask don't tell?"

Sheesh!

Okay, I have to say that I fully support the "anti-sprout" faction. They just don't taste good. But then I feel the same way about asparagus and cauliflower. Okra, however, is another story. When my mother used to make it, she always boiled it so that it was slick and sloopy. Ick! Then when I grew up I had a Home Ec teacher who showed us how to saut? it in butter. It's delicious and not sloopy at all. The trick is that it has to be completely dry when you put it in the pan. If you leave it for a good, long time without doing much turning it gets crispy. To control the fat content I now saut? it in olive oil and add a little butter at the end of cooking.

Next, how do I join the IOBSH? Sounds like a worthy cause! :-)

I'm glad to see so many people don't like Brussels Sprouts. The more of you there are that hate them, the more there are for me, and the less expensive they will be. My daughter loves them! Even my cats love them! In fact, you might say our home is full of BS!
