Default any advice on choosing a plan and getting started

I have some very unique challenges, and I would like to follow a low carb diet in a holistic way, using organic foods, and avoiding my food allergies.
It will be more challenging because I have major digestive issues.

I will be doing low carb without eggs, cows dairy, soy, yeast, gluten, peanuts, certain tree nuts, etc,as well as certain raw veg I don't tolerate.

I will be taking wisdom from some of the low carb plans and putting together a program where I do not go over a certain level of carbs per day.

I am interested in the following

Paleo diet
Candida Diet (I have yeast issues)

My question is,how do you keep track of carb grams?and if so do you have to count non-starchy veggies?

I will probably take in a slightly higher carb level as I have to drink a meal replacement shake sometimes due to malapsorbtion syndrome. And it has some carbs. But I will try not to go over 80 grms a day to start with and then as i progress cut it down to around 44 grms.

You can buy a good carb counter book, or find them online (the Atkins site has a good one), or track your carbs in a site like Fitday.

Count all your carbs, even the non-starchy veggies. You'll find you can eat quite a few of those and still be within your daily limit.

I recommend you read books on several different plans. You might have to pick a little from several plans to fit your health needs, but I'm convinced that low carb will help improve your health. Most of us who have been doing this for some time can testify to how much healthier we all are now, even those of us who still have a lot of weight to lose.

I like Dr. Atkins books, Protein Power by the Eades, and Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution, even though I'm not diabetic, because he has some good information that is appropriate for anyone following a low carb plan. (You can actually read Dr. Bernstein's book online! (http://www.diabetes-normalsugars.com/)

Looks like you'll have to concentrate on your protein from beef, pork, chicken & fish, and then add in what veggies you can tolerate. Keep experimenting until you find the balance that works for you, the foods that you can handle, and keep us posted on your progress. Perhaps you'll be able to help someone else with similar problems to follow a low carb lifestyle successfully.

Wishing you much success.

Great advice! The only thing I'd add, if you aren't already aware, is that for most low carb plans, you can deduct fiber from your total carbs to get your net carb count.
