![]() It sounds so insurmountable when ya put it that way! 136.5 lbs to lose... UGH! So I've decided to look at it this way... my co-worker's wedding is exactly 2 months from now. I'd LIKE to lose 25 lbs before the wedding. That would put me right at about 250 lbs. A weight I haven't seen in about 15 years? My mini-goals way are: 1.) to be under 267 (because I haven't been in about 9 yrs), ok, so I got to 267 a couple yrs ago when I had the creeping crud (flu from Hades!), but I'd like to get there because I deserve to be there... lol 2.) to be under 250, which I haven't seen in about 12 yrs. So... this should be fun, challenging, annoying, exciting... you name it... So here we go! We WILL succeed! |

| Welcome, Jacki. I have like 200 to lose, but it will be more like 150 I think, but at any rate, It is over welming but as you said, make little goals, and you feel positive with that. You can do it!

| howdy, jacki. i always tried not to think in terms of the total, for just the reason you mentioned. i was always shooting for "the next 10 down" or "new decade" as we sometimes call it here. but really, however works best for you to think of it is the way to go, man.

| hello, jacki, goddess and everyone...i also have about 150 lbs to lose. i'm not sure how many as getting on the scale was not helpful at all...but i needed to keep track -- what to do? a few months ago, i got one of those "Mary Lou's Weigh" scales -- they record your starting weight and tell you how much you have gained or lost, all in ten pound increments and with motivational messages each time you weigh. i think it's been helpful. i just joined LCE today, hope this will be helpful also. as we all take it one baby step at a time to our goal -- health. all good things to all of you! |

| Ahem...Jacki....read my signature lines. And like I told Sandi over in her journal - 10 pounds is a great achievement! ![]() Do you realize that if you lose 10 pounds per month for each month from now until June you will have lost 100 pounds???? I gotta teach ya'll the "10 pounds is all I'm looking for here" tune ~k |

![]() If you're not ready to face the scale (and don't have a helper who can secretly record the number for you until you are), I would use clothing and measurements. I get the scale avoidance (and had thrown out my scale by the time I started LC for real). But it does really help as you go along to have some kind of baseline. So using a specific article of clothing or a couple (maybe one that fits, one that's smallish, for example) and having measurements will help you chart your progress. That can be very motivating as you go on, since if you find yourself having "one of those days" you can check and see objective, quantifiable movement in the right direction. Good luck!

| Oooo! I think I think like Goddess - using clothes to measure results. I'll confess I've still got my size 22 jeans. They were tight, very tight, when I started. I wore those suckers until they absolutely wouldn't stay up because I LOVED the feeling of swimming in them! ![]() And, I still put them on when I get depressed because it's a GREAT feeling when they fall down off my hips!! ![]() Okay, I'm strange. But it really is a neat thing to do when you've got "stinking thinking" about how you're not losing weight fast enough, and you don't think you can "see" a difference, and all those other stupid thoughts. So Jacki, save a few outfits and six months from now you can join me in this strange ritual. ~k |

| great idea to keep a pair of jeans or other clothing to mark the journey... re: my post about the mary lou's (as in retton) weigh scales -- i don't think i was clear that they don't tell you a number, just how much you've gained or lost from your original starting weight in ten lb increments....ten pounds at a time wishing you all all the best |
