I noticed that many people on this board have done lc more than once. What happens that they (you) quit? My DH and I started on 9-04-03 and have had 0 cheats and no desire to cheat. If there's a stumbling block waiting for us, I'd like to be well informed.
Thanks for sharing (teaching)

Last time I lost more than 80 pounds on protein power. I started on July 1, 1998 and had lost 50+ pounds by New years. i had a near stall taht lasted almost 6 months before i began losing again. in another 6 months I lost an additional 30+ pounds (theses are iffy numbers - but they aren't too far off). But i began to cheat a little even though i wasn't near goal. The occasional pizza, french fries, well who can pass up pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving. It wasn't long before all my insulin resistance was back in full force and making me so ravenous I couldn't stop myself from eating. And I only wanted all the wrong things. So I gained abck all but 10 pounds of my 80+ loss in the next 3 years. I had a lot of false starts but I couldn't get that mindset I have now. I will succeed and I will keep it off.
You can and you will also!

hello cgnoman,

For me I started back in 1990 lost weight ..about 40 to 50 LBS.. then got pregnant after 6 and half years of trying. So I thought that gave me the right to eat EVERYTHING. So I put it all back on pluse pregnancy weight by the end of 1991. After my pregnancy I waited three months and went back to LC'ing(1992). I lost 60 or so LBS and then summer hit! Well being that I spend a lot of time at the beach it was easier to get fast food, and not to mention ice cream (big downfall). I just did not have the mind set. So needless to say.. I fell off gained it all back pluse a few friends. Re-started with a different attitude last Jan 3rd and made it though summer! I made it though Holloween! Thanks giving is no biggy for me..but x-mas will be hard. So I guess the biggest downfall for myself was my own frame of mind. I didn't look at this as a life style just a quick fix (I.e diet). I have learned from my mistakes and even though I may fumbel with it every now and then, it makes it ok because now LC is truely what I see as my NORMAL way of eating. So I think the only stumbbling block you may have to worry about is perhaps your mental enemies(some times friends, family, and even strangers can make it hard too).

I want to say congrats for staying the course to both you and DH.

I've done LC twice, but neither was a plan one could sustain forever. The first was the Stillman diet back in the '70s (basically, a meat fast). The second was a protein-sparing modified fast (drink LC/high-protein food substitute 5 or so times a day, eat nothing).

Although I lost weight, I "knew" the "right" thing to do after these extreme diets was a well-rounded, high-carb, low-fat eating plan.

Well, what can I say? The subsequent years of HC-LF eating landed me right back where I started (even heavier).

This time, I chose a plan I believe is sustainable forever, AND I joined lowcarbeating.com to get the skinny on how people make it work in their lives ( pun intended).

Wow, I'm impressed with how all of you found your way back. I know so many who leave off doing what's right for themselves and go into permanent distruction. I do indeed have much to learn and I thank you for teaching with your experiences.
It's good to have a forum where people tell it like it is or was so the rest of us can learn and not have to make the same mistakes.
