Over the weekend I went to Trader Joe's a purchased a few great low carb items. This low carbing is going to be good. I also picked up some low carb bread. The taste is okay, but the texture and chewiness makes me want to gag. Please someone is there a tasty alternative? I have a very busy schedule and it is almost impossible to get up and make breakfast. My idea was to have toast before I left home, so that i could take my vitamins and eat breakfast once I got to work. But the bread is awful. Help me. I am determined.

What is the brand of your bread? I buy the Atkins bread and it is pretty good. 225/183/170? “I can conscientiously assert I never lived so well as under the new plan of dietary, which I should have formerly thought a dangerous, extravagant trespass upon health.” --William Banting (Thanks Lez)

the stuff they sell at Trader Joes is full of soy flour, that's what's making you gag. (trust me!) Though the Atkins bread does have soy, it's the 8th ingredient and the bread has a good taste and mouth feel. Bread, even LC is really a once in a while thing on this WOE. Daily consumtion is not a good idea, you can stall. Try having bite sized pieces of steak to grab or a container of egg salad that you can snag a big spoonful of to eat before your vitamins, then you can finish breakfast at work. BTW - it's ok to take your vitamins later in the day, you'll be fine!

April Rose, thanks for the info. I will not a problem giving up the bread I was always thought that vitamins taken later in the day will keep you up at night. That is why I take them no later than 6:30 a.m. I am determined.

The low carb breads I have tried have the texture of a sponge. You might give Orowheat whole wheat lite bread a try. They also make a whole wheat lo carb (but it is the same thing with a different name) They also make a multi grain lo carb that is not bad. They are all about 6 net carbs, so moderation is called for. --jim

I looked at Sara Lee "Lite" wheat bread today. It had 9 grams of carbs per two slice serving with 2 grams of fiber, so 7 grams for two slices isn't terrible. It was a little more thinly sliced than regular bread. I haven't a clue what it tastes like though, I'm still on induction and only dreaming about bread. sigh....

I find the only way to eat the bread is to lightly toast it. Also here in rainy Washington state we have QFC that is selling a line of low carb bread that actually doesn't taste too bad not toasted. Somehow it just isn't worth the stall, so I limit my consumption to only 1x per week. Good luck. Shortie19 240+/193.5/130 Since 1/1/03
