I've been on, and off, atkins for about a year now. I checked my journal and it seems the longest I've been able to stay on it has been about 20 days. I've seen results, infact, that's how I lost some of the *after the baby* weight, but still have about 10 pounds to go to get rid of that. Not to mention the fact I'd like to get back to my ideal weight of 150. When I first heard about Dr. Atkin's diet I tried it, it was a Godsend! Before the diet I had problems with chronic lowblood sugar, and I'm not diabetic. I also get leg cramps, numbness in the hands a little, and if I eat certain carbs...I end up visiting the procelin palace and visiting well.."RALPH--to put it mildly" for a while. I'm guessing I also have wheat allergies because if I stay off the wheat I no longer have these problems, or the eczema, or the acid reflux. I wish I'd found out about this sooner as I've had eczema since I was a baby, and I'm 38 now. It was painful at times. Anyways, I was hoping to find a support group. Maybe that will help me keep on it longer. I really have no choice, mind you, as my body is pushing me this direction, but always good to know others are kinda in the same boat and along for the ride. LisaC

Welcome to LCE, Lisa! Glad you found us. I've been LC since Jan. 2002, and this forum has been my lifeline. I'm sensitive to wheat, too. My hands will swell and be very stiff the morning after eating wheat. This WOE has had a positive effect on my health, emotions and self-esteem. Stop by to check in each day, Lisa. We'll learn from each other! ![]() Take care~ Susan LCE Member since 01/02

Thanks for the welcome. I've tried to vary the diet, which is much easier now thanks to the commercial food makers now bringing out lowcarb foods, but I found out the lowcarb bread wasn't for me. Even the whole wheat made me wake up stiff and hurting. I will say though, that the Bryers LowCarb icecream is very good. My mother has fybromyalgia as well as a bad form of arthritus (excuse the spelling) The last time she tried the diet her arthritus pain dissapeared and she didn't have to take her pain medication. She, unfortunately, got discouraged and quit. She has reciently restarted back on it though and this time seems to be getting results.

Lisa, I have rheumatoid arthritis and can attest to the postive impact this WOE has on RA. Before LCing, I was a real mess. I still battle R.A., because it is a progressive disease, in which there is no cure. I am certain that the healthy foods I eat on this program are helping my body, no doubt about it! I wish the best for you and Mom. I have heard other members who have FM, say this WOE helps control their pain. Always get doctor's permission before starting low carb, especially if you have any sort of illness. Take care~ Susan LCE Member since 01/02
