Default Outstanding shop for plus-size resources

I just finished reading Taxgirl's very honest and touching post about some of the day-to-day challenges of being plus-size. I decided to make this a separate post so the information would not be "buried" as a response to her post. One thing Taxgirl mentioned was that even personal hygiene becomes a real challenge when one is a plus-size. I know a WONDERFUL resource for lots of tools that can help with this.

It's called Amplestuff. I have no affiliation with these folks except that I have dealt with them for years (long before they even had a website). They call themselves "Everything for Big People (Except Clothes)," although they do have a few specialty clothing items such as plus-size aprons and hospital gowns.

What they do sell is amazing helpful! Sponges on handles to reach all those important areas, specialty hangers for plus-size clothes, fanny packs that WILL fit around your waist (100" is the largest size listed, and after that they offer to make them to size. Even more fun, they will exchange the waist extender within 5 years if you need a different size--great news for those of us who are "Atkins-izing" our size!), umbrellas that won't leave parts of you hanging out in the rain, extenders for airplane seat belts, fitness tapes for plus-size exercisers, and much, much more. They even have things like extra-big kneeling pads to save your knees when gardening or doing other projects where you have to kneel. For those of you who sew, there's a book on how to fit patterns to any size, as well as an extra-long tape measure.

Many things become so much easier to deal with when you simply have the right things work with. Their website is http://amplestuff.safeshopper.com/index.htm?317. It's a lot of fun just to browse--they have things I would never think of, but immediately see how handy they would be!

Gilley, I buy stuff for my elderly mom from this site, too. They have so many handy gadgets to help no matter what a person's reason for needing the help is. Heck, I don't have any reaching disabilities AND I'm tall, but I still own two of their reachers in different lengths because they are just so darned convenient (and every time I can't reach something in the back seat of my car when I'm in the front, I think about getting a third one--the fold-up one--for my car!)
