Thumbs up NEW for May! The old "5-a Day"!

A newbie asked about the "5-a-Day", and since this is the first day of May, I decided to "resurrect" the old challenge.

Here's what we do: We post all or part of our daily menus to help us keep track of whether (or not) we are eating our 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day.
No one gets "in trouble" here! We encourage one another, and occasionally discover a new way to incorporate fruits and veggies into our menus.

Anyone want to join me in this daily challenge? Most veggies and a good number of fruits are high in fiber and vitamins, and low in carbs. So, let's get together and be accountable for this important part of our menus. (I hate the word "diet"!)

Okay, it looks like I'm here by myself! But, feel free to join in at anytime. This is just a reminder/accountability "club" so you can come and go as you want.

Yesterday was a better day than today for me. Today I only had some "fauxtato" salad. But, after a trip to the supermarket, I have some fruits and veggies now. That reminds me....I have some radishes and celery that need to be prepped for tomorrow. It's not hard to eat a couple of servings of raw veggies when I can dip them in a little ranch dip. (Gotta make that too!)
Day 1: not so good!

I should probably join in too! Sometimes I don't get all I should...

Yesterday I had celery, green peppers, broccoli, and cauliflower, and just a few strawberries. Not too bad I guess. So far today, I've had nothing yet - check in later...

Yesterday ended up ok - had a stir fry so lots of broccoli, celery, bamboo shoots, and a few carrots. No fruits yesterday, but today I plan on having some strawberries - don't know about meals yet.

How's everyone else doing?

Hi, Andrea. I need all the (accountability) help I can get! I tend to do better when I know something is expected of me. Or maybe not....let's see: Monday I had some peach yogurt, not enough peaches in there to constitute a serving. And some leftover spinach/chicken/alfredo stuff....I'd say 2 servings easily. (There was also some mushroom and onion in it....isn't a mushroom a fungus? EEEEEW!) I had a small apple for a snack, and some leftover "fauxtato" salad at dinner. I think I was pretty darned close to 5 anyway!

Today I had salad at lunch AND at dinner, the last of the "fauxtato" salad, and a small apple. Depending on exactly how salad is measured, I believe I had 5 today.

Did anyone watch Oprah? Check out the show notes on her site....it was a very interesting and informative health show.

Anyone else?

I should play here too - some days I don't get in all I need and maybe the accountability will help me out!

Yesterday I had a homemade pumpkin/walnut muffin for breakfast, for lunch I had a small Red Delicious apple, for dinner I had caulitater salad and a big bunch of snow peas - not too bad I guess!

So far today I've had another pumpkin muffin for breakfast, and I'll have a few SF sweet gherkins and another R.D. apple for lunch. Dinner will be out so I'll have to concentrate on getting in some good veggies. May also have some sliced strawberries for dessert later this evening. They are SOOO good here right now - perfectly ripe and luscious - I bought a full flat yesterday for $12, and there was not ONE bad berry in there - they are all sliced up and either in the fridge or the freezer already.

I had a very large serving of raw broccoli for lucnch. Should count as "two" veggies servings, I think. Grabbing a pear now.

I've had cauliflower today, green peppers, and strawberries so far -- we'll see what dinner brings.

For breakfast I had yogurt w/strawberries in it. Not a whole serving, though. I had radishes and celery (with dip of course) for lunch and afternoon snack. I had a bigger salad than usual with dinner. Maybe not a full 5, but close.

That's the good thing about this "challenge": there's always tomorrow and the chance to do better!

Maybe I am here all alone. I might have to change my siggy to "The lone member of the "5-a-Day" club".

Anyhow, I had radishes and celery for snack, green beans for lunch, a small apple for snack, and a can of asparagus at dinner (3 1/2). That's 6 1/2 to 7 servings today. I overdid EVERYTHING! Including fruits and veggies! LOL!
