Default Five A Day: The COLOR way! (January '06)

Hey, everyone!
It's a new year and time to make new and better choices. Please join us as we begin 2006 with a new version of our old thread from the "5-a-Day Club".

I found this logo on a bag of apple slices....I think it sums up our committment to having AT LEAST 5 servings per day of fruits (lower carb, please!) and vegetables. COLOR means healthy! We all know the WHITE foods are not healthy ones!

If you need some support and encouragement to make these healthy choices, meet Heather, Henry, and me every day as we continue to post our menus or f & v choices here every day.

Thanks Maxi. I waited for the new thread before posting yesterday's menu. Breakfast was l/c pancakes & sausage. Lunch was 2 deviled eggs,a couple servings of celery stalks filled with cream cheese and stuffed olives, and 1/2 apple. Dinner was a lettuce salad w/roma tomato, cucumber, green onion, & stuffed olives and shrimp prima vera w/broccoli & onion in a white wine & cheese sauce over Dreamfields linguini and a piece of what I will call for now DPPPD (Decadent Pecan Pie Part Deux).

My veggies today are going to be simple... sauerkraut in my lunch, and then tomatoes/onions/cilantro/jalapenos (I'm making a huge tub of salsa) with dinner... I'll have some brocolli or mixed veggies for a snack, and I may even share a pear with my son.

Great thread. Yesterday I had veggies in my omelet, peppers and onions and tomatoes. My lunch had red & green bell peppers, cucumbers and baby carrots, and for supper we had butternut squash. Red, green and orange.

Today we had quacamole with onion and tomato. And tonight we are going to have brussels sprouts. I feel like a walking box of crayons, I'm so colorful today.

It was indeed a colorful day. Red, white, and green. Breakfast was Maggie's cereal w/dried cranberries. Lunch was ham salad in leaf lettuce wraps, celery stuffed with cream cheese & stuffed olives, 1/2 an apple, and a piece of DPPPD. Dinner was roast pork, cranberry relish, zucchini carbonara, and green beans.

How shameful is this for the thread starter? I had the apple/walnut thing at Mc Donald's for lunch (no yogurt) and some cauli salad tonight at dinner. Yikes....I need to go back to work! My life is so much more normal when I'm working!

BTW-welcome Katie and Nita! Heather is so consistent and Henry eats really neat, interesting foods and I'm...well......the wildcard! LOL!

Another red, white and green day today. Breakfast was l/c pancakes & sausage. Lunch was a creative use of leftovers, sauteed a couple servings of celery and onion added some leftover chicken and steak, seasoned with chipolte powder and picante sauce and rolled it in a l/c tortilla for a burrito with a lettuce salad w/roma tomato, green onions, cucumber, and stuffed olives. Dinner was a reprise of the lunch salad and shrimp prima vera w/broccoli & onion in a white wine & cheese sauce, and a piece of DPPPD.

Roma tomato for lunch, with a few Splenda sweetened pickles.
Brussels sprouts for supper.
Strawberries and blueberries for snack. Lots of antioxidants tonight.

Today was a better day. I had an apple on the way to work, with breakfast. Lunch was some leftover cauli salad and another (small, yellow, delicious) apple. For dinner, I had a green salad, then some of the broccoli/mushroom/chicken Alfredo stuff. So, just yellow and green today. But at least I got 5!

Hmmmm....a yellow apple, some green broccoli, another yellow apple, and some green salad. That's pretty close to 5....and yellow and green. Nice.
