Default Focus and Re-Focus Group

A lot of new members need some help in focusing on their particular low carb plan, and some returning members who have strayed from their plan need some help in regaining their focus.

I propose this little spot for anyone who needs a helping hand, and words of encouragement, perhaps some tips, from some of you veterans, or others who are having success in sticking to your plan.

Perhaps you have an event coming up that is sure to be a major temptation, maybe a wedding reception, or a birthday party, or a holiday. Or perhaps you are having some upheavals in your life, (health problems, a death in your family or friendship group, emotional problems, divorce, marriage, whatever) and you just need a little boost from a friend to keep you focused on your plan.

Please feel free to post in this thread, let us know that you need that word of encouragement, that little tip that might help you resist temptation, that arm around your shoulder, even that pat on the back when you've done well. Cry, whimper, whine, whatever you need to do. Just let us know how we can help you.

Cool Re: Focus and Re-Focus Group

Thanks for adding this, Nita. What a nice idea!

Personally, my current challenge at the moment is staying reasonably close to plan when I'm tired and overbooked. Under those circumstances, I tend to grab whatever is quickest to feed myself and hubby. I have been doing a little better with having some easy LC options on hand, but it can be challenging to have a variety of easy, quick to fix food around that isn't hard on the wasitline...

I love this challenge Nita!
Excellent idea.
This is just what I need to keep myself in focus...
Ok, so 100 days from now (today) is like, May 2nd, right?
I want to commit to staying on plan -- no unplanned cheats -- and working out no less than 3x per week.
For me, I really have to do both: work out and eat right.
I can't do just one or the other.
Count me in!

I'm just needing to focus on my health, and to forget the scales. I'm pretty much resigned to losing by the ounce while others are losing by the pound, but it's not an issue anymore, even though I still have a lot to lose.

I'm not going to worry about the weight, but instead focus on eating only good foods that will keep me healthy, keep my arthritis under control, and keep my appetite under control.

I'm sticking to low carb for the rest of my life, no matter whether I lose another pound ever again, as long as I stay healthy, or at least reasonably healthy.

Me too Nita. I have decided once and for all to get off of the diet rollar coaster and simply adopt a healthy eating plan for life. Trying to lose weight quickly is the thing that led me to do stupid things like the Kimkins diet....boy was THAT a hard lesson! I lost $45.00 and a good portion of my hair...and count myself lucky that I didn't suffer more health consequences! Anyhow...now my focus is on just eating healthy, exercising and letting the weight do what it's going to do. Fortunately for me the weight is creeping back down and I have lost 4 pounds over the past month....AND, my hair is beginning to look healthy again, my skin is supple and glowing again, I have energy and my mood is stable. I can live with those benefits!

That sounds great, Nita. Focusing on what really matters and let the rest work itself out, at it's own pace.

Congrats on the losses, Vickie, but more importantly, on the renewed sense of well-being. That I wouldn't trade for a size 5 body!

Carolyn! Glad to have you with us...

It amazes me sometime to know that so many of us are the same when it comes to our eating habits, and how we need and use this forum to help us stay on track....I almost went for some chocholate yesterday, but you know I said to myself that I really didn't need to eat that, and that there were other things I could eat instead, or I just waited a little and that craving went away....so I am happy with yesterday. I too have to get in another couple hours of workout per week, currently doing 6 hours and should be doing about 10 or more....
I am going to try to get in some extra over the weekend and see how that works with me.

have a good weekend all
summer, good seeing you here...

I'm the world's worst couch potato, I never liked exercise. Perhaps it's because I had such dweebs for gym teachers, total lack of patience for students who weren't physically fit, or fast, or athletic, which I wasn't. That's why I won't go to a gym or other structured exercise places, too much like phys ed class! But I do need to add exercise in some way, now that I can move easier than before.

I've decided to focus more on strength and resistance training, not worry about aerobic right now, unless I decide to do some Gazelle workouts to get rid of frustrations! I probably need to bring it to work, then!

the "15-minute rule" is one of the most effective ones for me, too. thanks for the reminder! if i wait 15 minutes, many times the drive has passed.

Default Re: Focus and Re-Focus Group

The last few days I seemed way out of kilter. Saturday nothing went right; if it could go wrong, it did! I've been feeling down on myself, so seeing a small drop on the scales did much to cheer me up; however, I have been terribly remiss in taking my supplements, one of which is St. John's Wort, which keeps me on an even keel, and helps me with positive thoughts about myself. So, I am going to have to focus on taking these supplements every single day. I just never get around to them at breakfast, so I figure I can take them with lunch, and then we are getting ready to walk out the door to go back to work when I remember them. And I never even think about them in the evening when we are having supper. So, I think I will have to do a strategy I worked out a few months ago, and dole out several days' worth of pills, even a weeks' worth, all ready to take, except for the ones that need to be refrigerated.

Therefore, I plan to focus on getting those supplements into my system every single day! They aren't doing me any good sitting on the counter.

those supps sure can help! i've been working with my daughter to help her get in the swing of remembering hers every day as well. she's very hit and miss on it. i've got it built into my routine now so i usually remember, but it takes a while to get there.

i have used those day-of-the-week med holders for vitamins before, when i was having trouble remembering, and that's been helpful for me in the past by leaving it in a place i'll see. but i think a lot of it is just building the right habits.

have a good day, everyone!

I really tried getting my supplements in at lunch, but totally forgot today. Well, it was payday, and after lunch we got our checks ready for the bank to deposit, had to leave a bit early after lunch to get to the bank and then back to work by 1:00. That's not an excuse, just the facts. So, I'll take them with supper. Sigh. Wish I had a better memory. Don't suggest ginkgo, I take it, it doesn't help.
