Question Drink Question

Okay I dont' usually drink alcoholic beverages...but occasionally I like beer usually. Well I know it is full of carbs and being as this is my new Way of Life....occasionally imbibing an acoholic beverage or two is going to come into play......so what ideas does anyone have for this to keep things as low carb as possible. I looked for some of the LC beers but I didn't see any and they just don't put the nutritional info on the bottles.
Does vodka have alot of carbs??

Thanks in advance

vodka isn't carby, but be aware when you're drinking- first, the alcohol will get burned off before any fat will, so drinking during a weightloss phase does slow you down, depending on how often you do it.

secondly, low carbing makes you much more sensitive to alcohol, so it will take less than it used to.

personally, i will drink micelob ultra if i'm in the mood for beer, or a mike's light for a wine cooler type drink. many people enjoy an occassional glass of wine as well, and others do have mixed drinks sometimes.

i've also found personally that if i try to drink any of the uber-sweet fru-fru drinks i used to pre lc, i tend to get sick. ymmv.

Melissa, light beers generally have fewer carbs than regular beer. However, even among lite beers, there can still be a wide range of carbs. The highest amount I have seen (and I have not done a comprehensive survey) is in Heinekin's Light with about 8 carbs. My first choice for a l/c beer is Budwiser Select, followed by Mich Ultra and Miller Lite. (At 3.9 grams each, they all three have the fewest I have seen.) However, I have found that I drink a lot less now than before I started low carbing. As Dixie mentioned, alcohol has an enhanced effect after you have been following a l/c WOE. I can feel a glass of wine immediately. As far as vodka, or any hard alcohol they will typically have 0 carbs. Liquers and sweet wines will have a substantial amount. If you are looking for a mixer, like tonic, for a vodka tonic, make sure you get one that is sugar free. (Most bars do not have sugar free tonic.)

Well, you're certainly better off for avoiding them! I used to judge how good something was by the amount of sugar it had...guess i still do that, but I go the other way now!

If you're looking to compare the carb counts of beers, I found this to be a helpful chart.

For myself, I think the Mich Ultra Amber is somewhat acceptable. (I used to be a fan of Killian's Red in my pre-lc life.)

Thanks for the helpful hints guys.....I guess I didn't realize that like the Bud Select or the Mich ultra was a Lower carb beer...they just dont' advertise it that way. I usually drink Leinenkugels...LOL Midwest beer. Or Sam Adams Boston lager.

I love a vodka and tonic in the summer with lime.
Also, rum. Yummo! I mostly obstain now. But what Dixie said is dead on, be v. careful! You really feel the alchol a lot more quickly when you are low carbing.

Melissa,
I was with some friends this afternoon and they had made a drink with Crystal lite lemonade and vodka which tasted wonderful. Not at all tart or bitter. My friend said she use to make "Bullfrogs" made of Crystal Lite limeade with vodka, but could no longer find the limeade-so switched to the lemonade. Good stuff.

When I go to my sister's house, usually every Sunday, They generally have a cookout and we spend most of the day outdoors. There's beer everywhere. You can't walk without tripping over a cooler. So overindulging is far too easy. especially when we're out there from 2 p.m. until midnight sometimes. I found that white wine with a healthy splash of club soda and a twist of lemon was my savior. both from the aspect of the alcohol as well as the low carb aspect. With between 1 and 2 carbs per 5 ounce serving of dry white wine you would really have to chug these down to get any serious carb count. I usually use about 3 1/2 ounces wine to 1 1/2 ounces club soda. Sometimes when I don't have club soda I just drink wine on the rocks. And every other drink is a large glas of water.

Sounds good...I almost bought some of that the other day. I wonder what the Pink lemonade or even the sunrise orange crystal light would be with vodka. I guess there is no end to the possibilities. I am wanting to try the vanilla vodka w/ the diet root beer. I better be careful or I will end up an alcoholic...LOL

Rob that is a good idea too...although I am not much of a wine drinker. I have tried wine before and I just never have liked the taste...maybe with the soda and a twist I might like it better.....Thanks

Melissa-oooo-I bet the pink lemonade would look pretty. What was nice about the vodka/lemonade mix was that I put a half shot of vodka in a tall glass of lemonade and carried that around all afternoon-only replenished the lemonade and no one was the wiser.

Rob-Than knock on your sister's door next Sunday will be me. Sounds like fun.
