Thumbs up Shiritaki Noodles

Hey....I just registered today. I lost nearly 50 pounds a year or so ago on the Atkins diet, but it has crept back. I tried medifast and it works, but I WANT TO EAT!!!! Don't you think that any diet that has something you can eat tons of... is superior to one that limits everything??

Anyway, I just learned about surataki noodles and ordered some. Sounds like a godsend. Has anyone else had any experience with them??

The plain shiritaki noodles are a bit rubbery, but quite good for lo mein like meals....Boil them a bit first. They also dont reheat well, (at least I dont think so), so only cook what you will eat. As for the tofu Shiritaki, I have yet to try that...

When I ordered mine (which I have yet to receive) I thought it said NOT to cook them as that would cause the rubberyness. What do you think??

Yes i'd agree. A light cook...or throw into the pan with a stirfry for a few minutes makes a big difference. Still a little rubbery I guess....although quite tasty really...

YUK!!! I bought two packages and threw out one unopened. I would go hungry before I bought these again.

I bought the Shiritaki noodles at Publix. I found them disgusting - like eating a pencil eraser. Tossed them in the trash.

The tofu Shirataki noodles are great, especially in soups or stir-fries. I don't like the pure Shirataki noodles at all - rubbery, and to me they have absolutely no taste and don't soak up any of the sauce they're coated with. Big difference between the two noodles.

I buy the tofu shirataki noodles at a large Asian market located near my work.

I love Shirataki noodles. It is quite the stinky experience rinsing them.
What works well for us is to fry them up in olive oil. Then we put our sauce over them. One thing to remember is don't overeat. What makes them work so well is the absorption of fluid. They swell up in your stomach. My grandson pulled that mistake once.
Do a search here on shiritaki noodles and you will find a very informative thread on the subject with cooking ideas.

If you are looking for a pasta replacement, they work well for me. Another thing to consider is Spaghetti squash. That also works well as a pasta replacement. I love it with butter and pepper.
