| Welcome! ![]() My first suggestion is patience, keeping in mind that metabolism is a "moving target." It changes with age, activity and other variables. Re-read your book, if you haven't already, to refresh your memory and work your plan. I'm sure you'll have other suggestions as well. Hope you'll make yourself at home here.

Ronda. Atkins controlled carb weight loss is not a race where you judge success or failure by how quickly you lose weight. It is a healthy way of eating that enables you to lose weight while developing healthy eating habits that you can maintain throughout your life. From other comments, it is not unusual for people to experience a slower weight loss when they restart after some period of reverting to a non-low carb WOE. As Maggie has suggested re-reading Atkins is a great way to refresh your recollection of what you need to do. Personally, I find that it is helpful to do that periodically, even if you are maintaining a l/c lifestyle as I find things each time that I had forgotten or that had not registered when I read it previously. Good luck.

![]() Welcome! Weight loss gets slower as we age. I can attest to that! However, the health benefits of eating low carb make up for the slower losses, and with - er, um - maturity comes the ability to stick with it for the long term, regardless of how slow the process. If all of us who lost in the past had just stuck with it, we'd be that much further ahead; however, it does no good to look wistfully to the past. Just forge on ahead looking to better health in the future.

| welcome, back. give yourself time as far as the speed of the losses. it's very common that second time around it goes a bit slower than the first, but it usually still goes. as long as you're making any progress and you're feeling good, you're probably doing fine. the key (to me, at least) is adjusted the mindset away from the calendar (which implies you'll someday be "finished" with low carb) and focusing on making solid, healthy choices as a matter of habit. those habits are what will serve you in the long run. glad to have you with us!

| I, too, have come back to the LC WOE. I began again last week on Sept. 11 and have begun to lose a little. I have a "few miles" on me so I expect the process to be slow. I joined this website just this morning so I'll be doing more lurking than chatting. A few of my friends and I are going to the beach next week for a much needed getaway but am planning to remain LC as much as possible. Thanks for listening. |

| I picked up my Atkins book and started reading for motivation....it has helped. When I did LC last time I chose Carb Addicts Plan. Some of you may have some guidance for me....my plan is to complete Induction then go back to the Carb Addict plan. I am in my 60's so don't know how hard it will be to shed pounds. I lost 3 lbs since 9/11/08. I am hungry right now but don't think I have any protein in the house to snack on so I'm tryinig to hold out until dinner. I live alone so I am not hindered by cooking for someone else. I do have a couple of Atkins shakes in the fridge, don't know if they are allowed during Induction? |

| marjorie- "real" food is always best, but shakes are much less problemmatic for most than the bars or other lc specialty foods. atkins does allow shakes on induction (along with some other specialty foods that i wouldn't personally eat as well). but even those foods that can be trouble if overdone are usually ok in a pinch and certainly better than picking something way offplan. so if you're hungry, get something!

| Hey, Marjorie. As I said, age, activity, hormones and a number of things seem to have an effect on the rate at which things work. With my T2 diabetes issue and being in my late forties, it took me just about 2 years to lose 50 some odd lbs, which was about 1/3 of my starting weight. However, my BGL's fell into normal rather quickly. Be patient and I have no doubt that, over time, you can normalize your weight. Nice to have your company.
