| Sorry to hear you're having a tough time, Nicole. We have had a bunch of discussions on sweeteners around here, so there are plenty of opinions! Try this search to see if you come up with anything interesting (which is just for "sweeteners" entered into the searchbox at the top of any page - LowCarbEating Search Results | LowCarbEating My personal favorites are Sweetzfree and Fiberfit for everyday use, and Eryrithol for cooking. Henry, our friendly neighborhood mod, reccomends this Brown Sugar Syrup sub frequently. I sometimes use Stevia, but usually not alone because it has an aftertaste if not masked with another sweetener. Any of these you can't find locally you can often find at Netrition. I also note you said you're following Atkins. I would really suggest you get the book. There is NO phase of Atkins that is NO-carb. You need those veggies! Even induction, the most restrictive phase of Atkins, is 20grams of carbs a day (counted as net carbs, which is carbs minus fiber). The plan also gives you a transition plan from weight loss to "just how you eat" so you can maintain your losses and not gain it back, as folks will do if they just "diet" for a while and then stop. ![]() When I first started, I took somebody else's word for what Atkins was. I only lasted two weeks. Getting that book and learning what it really was about was what helped me lose the real weight. Also, do check out the cooking area of the forum for lots of ideas. And good luck!

| Welcome, Nicole! We used to live in Medina County, so I hear ya on the freezin'! Here in Texas, when it does snow, we don't have to shovel, everything just shuts down for a day, and the next day it's usually melted off. Not to rub it in, but today is going to be in the 70s..... I like Sweetzfree and FiberFit, both liquid forms of Splenda, the first being highly concentrated (1/4 tsp equals 1 cup of sugar) the second somewhat dilute (1 tsp equals 8 tsps sugar) with fiber added. Perhaps your reactions are so much to the sweetener but to the filler used to make it bulky. It might be worth your while to try the liquid and see if you have the same reaction. I buy FiberFit from Netrition online, and Sweetzfree from the Sweetzfree website. Now, if you are drinking sodas with Splenda, such as Diet Rite, and are still having reactions, then it won't be the filler, but the sweetener itself, because they use the concentrated Splenda for the sodas. Wishing you much success on your low carb journey.

| Oh, Ok! That's old-school Atkins. Gotcha. The new Atkins plans start at 20 carbs a day, and allow for subtracting the fiber to get the carb count. But the plan from '72 wasn't like that.
