| Hey Laurie! It's good to see you back Carb levels below 20g per day is pretty extreme and you run the risk of slowing your metabolism down, which in turn will make it difficult to lose when you start increasing your carb levels. Are you planning on doing Induction again? If you are, I would do it *by the book*...and only stay at 20g/day for the recommended 2 weeks...do NOT go below 20g; then start adding in 5g/day weekly until you hit your 40g per day that your Dr has recommended. If you don't lose at 40g/day, you should see your Dr again, or perhaps even consider a dietician consult. I'd be surprised if you didn't lose at 40g/day, but we all know we are all different. Above all...follow your physicians advice. ![]() Best wishes on your LC journey to healthy eating, weight loss, and blood glucose control! You can do it!! s

| Hi Shelley, Thanks for the welcome. That is part of my problem i am not sure I want to due full blown induction. I have been the last two days and of course i am on track today. But i wondered if it would hurt me to just start at 40 period...Do you think I need to do induction???

| Laurie, You know your body better than anyone...yanno? Have you seen any weight loss yet? Do you monitor your bld glucose at home?...how's it doing? Personally, I'd hesitate to start at 40g, since you have a history of going extremely low; you might consider only staying at induction level carbs for say, 3-5 days or so, then start progressing on up as Dr A recommends. Again, YMMV and it depends on how you are feeling, and if your glucose is stable. hth s

| I have lost 3 lbs since starting Monday...However as I am having some hunger and glucose issues staying under twenty. But oddly enough only in the morning. That seems to be my hardest time. With the blood sugar feeling like it's dropping and feeling light headed and shaky. After lunch I start feeling really good. I am eating breakfast. Usually eggs and some form of meat. So I am not sure why I am feeling that way....

| I am having a mid morning snack. I think since I am on the downside of my first week. I'll take it day by day and increase my carbs as i feel necessary.

| Welcome back Laurie. I also have hypoglycemia so I know exactly what that light headed, shaky feeling is all about. My doctor suggested low carb, too, specifically South Beach. As soon as I began low carbing I felt much better but I have found that a small amount of carbs with each meal helps to even out my blood sugar, more like what is recommended on The Zone diet. If I don't stick with the low carb diet my hypoglycemia comes right back because for me it is a chronic condition that can be managed by eating right, but it can't be cured. Stick with your program. The results are worth it... no more dizziness! |

| Thanks Goddess and Anniriki, I am hoping to control the hypoglycemia and at the same time reduce the migraines that i am having. I think some of them are being triggered by the blood sugar swings I am having. I haven't tried South Beach or The Zone are those better for someone that is hypoglycemic?

| I can't really say which diet is better. I think it depends on your own body chemistry. South Beach is what my doctor recommended, but basically she said any low fat, low carb diet is good. For me, a balanced approach with protein, carbs and fat in each meal works best to keep my blood sugar from dropping too low between meals. If you decide to read one of the Zone books I'd suggest Mastering the Zone. Its not as complicated as the first Zone book. Most low carbers do well on Atkins, but that's too much protein for me and not enough carbs. Its a challenge to find what plan works best for your body, but I can almost guarantee that if you stick to a low carb way of eating you will feel a whole lot better. |

| Thanks Anniriki, I may have to check out the Zone book. I have always done Atkins and like you I think I may need a few more carbs to feel good...
