My FIrst Low Carb Day

Posted 08-17-2008 at 03:50 PM by amanda82003

I am new to this board. Today is my first low carb day. I have exactly 20 days until my wedding and I just want to lose weight. My goal number would be 19 pounds but I am not holding my breathe. I would be very happy with 9 pounds.

Today I am just trying to focus on no carbs. It is so hard for me right now. I want something sweet and totally over-filling. Cheeseburgers are my weakness and the bun is the best part. But looking great in my wedding dress is a big deal to me.

I am hoping with 3 weeks to go - I can loss a little weight! Here to my journey of getting thinner!!!!

welcome amanda. glad to have you with us!

i'm wondering if you've done any research yet? all the established low carb plans advise eating some carbs, notably veggies and almost everybody does better starting with a plan. most people find that dropping below 20 "net carbs" a day (carbs - fiber grams) does NOT speed weight loss. people go in thinking of carbs like we've heard about calories for so long, but carbs only have 4 calories each, 20 carbs a day vs. 0 is only about 100 calories difference and you miss all the nutrition from the veggies. low carbers love veggies!

and i hate to be the bearer of bad news, but...if you're only expecting to lose about 20 pounds total, it's highly unlikely you'll lose them in 20 days, or even half of them in 20 days. early effors at low carb (like any new diet) will flush out water from your system, so many people get a good start, but it's not likely you'll be able to consistently lose a pound every other day with a small amount to lose, regardless of how many carbs a day you eat. not trying to be a killjoy, but i want you to have realistic expectations, because that increases your chance of long term success. and that's what we want to promote here!

however, many people find that with a little experimentation, they find many ways to turn lc into a lifestyle for them so they can maintain losses and find lots of creative ways to have the stuff they enjoy in forms that don't create problems for them. i'd encouarge you to take a look at the cooking areas of the site for ideas on how to lc your favorites.

good luck, and big congrats on the upcoming wedding.

Amanda, congratulations on your forthcoming wedding. And congratulations on choosing the low carb way. It works, and you'll feel better. Listen to what Goddess says! After a couple days on the low carb way, you'll lose a good part of your desire for sugars. Oh you'll still have those moments but they're not as strong. Make sure you eat leafy green veggies! Spinach salad is one of my faves with bacon and egg and a low carb dressing. Keep us posted!!!
