I'm a newbie

Posted 08-11-2008 at 07:09 PM by cinnamin

Hi, this is my 9th day of a low carb eating plan. I am following the Idiot proof diet plan and I like it. I think the reason it is working for me is that I am eating butter, heavy cream, good oil, and eating rich cheese. I do not think I would be able to maintain a low fat low carb diet because it would feel too restrictive. I have been depriving myself my entire life and every meal has seemed like a chore, unless I was just not caring and eating all of the wrong things. This low carb lifestyle is the first thing that has made me feel good, like I am restricting carbs, but can still enjoy my food and not count everything and obsess to the point that eating is a chore.
I haven't weighed myself yet but my clothes are getting loose. I do get a little nervous sometimes that this might not work because of the high calorie, high fat. I guess I just need some feedback from people that have done it this way and have succeeded.

There are a lot of people who eat high fat and are very successful losing. It's so nice having cream in coffee, cheese on your burger, eggs cooked in butter. Yummy!

    Welcome!

    Howdy, Cinamon!

Basically, I've come to think of LC as a journey of discovery about how your body works. LC does have advantage over most eating plans because people can eat more calories/fat over other eating approaches and still lose weight.

However, everybody's body works a little differently. Most people do not have to count calories or moderate fat intake on LC, at least early on. As people approach their goal weight, they sometimes find that calories impact them more. Not everyone does, however.

The best thing you can do right out of the bat to enhance your chances for success are learning the ropes (read here/pick a plan/get the book), following your approach carefully, especially to start, and make any tweaks gradually, so you can evaluate if various changes impact you.

I know it can also be scary starting out, because you kinda feel like you're going to get your hopes up and then it will quit working. Truth is, sometimes you do have to make adjustments as you go along. But as long as you're feeling good and still getting results, you're probably doing fine. And the only way you can ever do it is one step at a time anyway, right? So don't worry about tomorrow. Just take care of now.

There are also lots of knowledable people around here who will help troubleshoot any snags you run across. So keep the faith and just keep moving forward.

Glad to have you with us.

Thanks for your encouragement Goddess. I have really enjoyed reading through all of the information at LCE and I plan to continue to make this my support system. It is so helpful to know I am not alone.
