Liz & I returned from a 3-day road trip last night. It was sometime on the way home that I made some observations...
While on the road we stopped at a truck stop for some coffee. We picked up a big bag, 1 pounder, of Peppered Beef Jerky. OK for now. We are driving along and both commenting on how good this jerky tastes. Hmmm. So a little latter I check the nutrition label.

It showed 6gr of Carbs. Upon further reading, very high on the list was Brown Sugar.

That was just NOT going to do. I totally stopped eating the Jerky. It brought to mind how important it is to look at the labels BEFORE we buy foods. I never would have even bought this package. At least I DID look and stop eating before I consumed enough to do any shift in my fat-burning.
Now on to eating TOO many calories... I remember that one of the important benefits with The Atkins Plan is that a persons body will get full faster and stay full with the higher amount of fats vs carbs. I made note of how Liz does
LC. First, some short history. Liz is Type-2 Diabetic. With that she takes some medications and should control her carb intake for best results. She did this 5 years ago at the same time I started
LC. It was very successful for her then. She has since brought carbs back into her life in a bad way. She is feeling the results of that eating.
Liz has jumped on the strick
LC wagon with me this time. Her only "bad" carbs come from the Whole Milk she loves.
On the trip Liz was drinking Half-Half most of the time. On the last occasion, we stopped for coffe and she noticed they had a big pumper of half-half. So instead of coffee she filled her cup up with that. Of note is that we both use these huge coffee cups for trips. Mine is 44oz and hers 32oz. She filled her cup to about 28oz. She was so proud of herself for not drinking milk. I pointed out that she may consider some facts about half-half. Like it is about 35 calories per TABLESPOON. And with the huge amount she just consumed, I put her intake at well over 3000 calories. And with that much, I estimate about 50 gr of carbs too.

I just let her have the information. It is up to her how she would like to go.
This brought to mind how I have in the past eaten
LC. Many time eating way too many of anything is not a good thing. In ALL of the Atkins books it is pretty clear to eat until no longer hungry. Do not keep packing it in. I have to think about why I am eating at that time. Am I truly hungry or is it something to do with boredom or emotional stress?
Just more factors to take into account on the Low-Carb Journey of Life...
