It is quite the challenge to get everything done that we want to in a day. Just last month I finished up a 90-day Game of life where I was challenged to get twice as much done as I had done before. It was very enlightening about ME. I'm not all that successfull at getting it ALL done. However, I do get a darn good amount of it done, NOW.
Since restarting Induction on Christmas, I've been challenged with many interruptions in my schedule and planning. This has caused me to think out of the box and to react spontaniously to changing situations. What I learned most in my Game was I make great decisions when I have little to no time to "analyze" the information. The more I think about something the bigger the obstacle becomes.
This last weekend was a great example of "Just Do It." I was 95% successfull at getting my stuff done. I did repairs to Cars, trucks, Jeeps, mods on my bike and even found time to help with a weekend seminar tear-down. The only thing planned in there was to do mods on my bike (daddy time).
By keeping myself so busy, I wasn't even hungry. I ate twice a day.

I guess what I'm getting to is that it is possible to get 10 lbs of stuff into a 5lb bag. It is just a matter of surrendering to the situation and just get it done.

I found in the past that I was "too busy" to do LC. It took too much work to plan out my meals and such. What a pile of excuses. It takes absolutely no more effort to eat out LC than to plan and carry stuff with me. Telling the waitress that you don't want the bun or the fries is very easy once you get used to it. Places that I frequent don't even ask me about the potatoes anymore. No matter how busy you are, there is always time to do LC. There are times when I do find that old programs pop up when I'm tearing apart a burritto or burger to eat the insides. It gets easier each time I do so. Pretty soon it just IS.

Liz & I returned from a 3-day road trip last night. It was sometime on the way home that I made some observations...

While on the road we stopped at a truck stop for some coffee. We picked up a big bag, 1 pounder, of Peppered Beef Jerky. OK for now. We are driving along and both commenting on how good this jerky tastes. Hmmm. So a little latter I check the nutrition label. It showed 6gr of Carbs. Upon further reading, very high on the list was Brown Sugar. That was just NOT going to do. I totally stopped eating the Jerky. It brought to mind how important it is to look at the labels BEFORE we buy foods. I never would have even bought this package. At least I DID look and stop eating before I consumed enough to do any shift in my fat-burning. :thumb:

Now on to eating TOO many calories... I remember that one of the important benefits with The Atkins Plan is that a persons body will get full faster and stay full with the higher amount of fats vs carbs. I made note of how Liz does LC. First, some short history. Liz is Type-2 Diabetic. With that she takes some medications and should control her carb intake for best results. She did this 5 years ago at the same time I started LC. It was very successful for her then. She has since brought carbs back into her life in a bad way. She is feeling the results of that eating.
Liz has jumped on the strick LC wagon with me this time. Her only "bad" carbs come from the Whole Milk she loves.

On the trip Liz was drinking Half-Half most of the time. On the last occasion, we stopped for coffe and she noticed they had a big pumper of half-half. So instead of coffee she filled her cup up with that. Of note is that we both use these huge coffee cups for trips. Mine is 44oz and hers 32oz. She filled her cup to about 28oz. She was so proud of herself for not drinking milk. I pointed out that she may consider some facts about half-half. Like it is about 35 calories per TABLESPOON. And with the huge amount she just consumed, I put her intake at well over 3000 calories. And with that much, I estimate about 50 gr of carbs too. I just let her have the information. It is up to her how she would like to go.

This brought to mind how I have in the past eaten LC. Many time eating way too many of anything is not a good thing. In ALL of the Atkins books it is pretty clear to eat until no longer hungry. Do not keep packing it in. I have to think about why I am eating at that time. Am I truly hungry or is it something to do with boredom or emotional stress?

Just more factors to take into account on the Low-Carb Journey of Life...

Today will be my first day in 2008 at the gym. I'm getting myself mentally prepared for it. As in previous years, the month of January proves to be the most challenging at the gym. There is a major influx of those that make health resolutions. It has been standing room only for use of the machines every January for the past many many years. :hamster: This is a short term inconvenience. Somewhere about late February many of the resolution people go back to their normal habits and it becomes life as usual at the gym.

I recall a joke- A man is signed up and paying monthly dues to the gym. He hasn't gone all year. When he decides to go in January for his New Year's resolution, he ask laughs at the desk clerk. "What do you call people like me that don't show up but once in a while?" The clerk responds "profit."

This is the time of year that the Fitness Centers make the biggest amount of money.

In contrast, last week the gym was so quiet you could hear crickets chirping. dance2

Now for my resolutions...
They are posted up in my Journal. Go look them up there. :nyanya:

I can assure you of one thing. I will be continuing my program long after February. :accolades:

Today TJ & I went off-road riding with our club. Last night I picked up a huge tray of Burritos donated by one of our members that couldn't show. I brought some plastic forks so that when it was time for lunch, I would be ready to open up one of them, eating the insides only. Well, by the time we got back to the trucks I was just too darn tired to mess with it. I looked at the burrito and even started to unwrap it. It was turning into a hassle. So, I just said the heck with it and just ate it that way. OK, I slipped and had a whole burrito.
Noooooo, I had a second.

I find it is managible to stay on LC when I keep to a regiment/routine. I remember when I first started Atkins in like 2003. (got to look up the date) I had my best success by being Fanatical about LC. We even saved loads of cash by not eating out much.

I'm sure that I will bounce back from this little setback. It was not a failure. I successfully found one of those times that tests my resolve. Now I can take steps to avoid those same circumstances in the future.

I wonder how many of us could benefit from just making note of those times when we have missed the mark. Find out, for us, what it was that caused us to weaken and shift our thinking in the future. I'm excited to put this knowledge to use and stick to my LC eating while the rest are going about there way.

So, yesterday I read thru the 1972 Atkins book. Man, was that a chore. The original version is written more like a novel/Shelf-help book. Lots of discussion of why I should start the Diet. I already got that! I like the organization of my 2000 (I think) version. To find the framework for the 72 plan I had to span several chapters and even learn different lingo. The original version uses "Levels" where the later uses "phases." There were levels and levels and levels... So I got the basics out of the book. I even found some great simple recipies that I can follow through induction. I had great success with the 2000 plan. It wasn't until the latest "Commercial" versions of the plan that I got disenchanted with the Atkins plan. Net Carbs are evil. The only carb that can be deducted, for me, is Fibre. My plan is to use the basics from the '72 version with the organized framework of my 2000 version to put myself on an induction that can kick-start my metabolism again. Now to get out into the shed and find my packed up 2000 version...

I got on the scale today. I knew that I had been putting a "few" pounds. Not THAT many. I weighed in at 242. Not good at all.
I brought my gym stuff with me. I will be there tonight. :thumb:

Part of our discussion last night was about increasing our longevity by getting into shape and stuff. As you can tell it was more of a one-sided conversation. Liz just wishes for these physical issues to go away while she sits and does nothing. Well, I can only lead by example. I've surely not been much of an example in the recent past. I brought my 1972 DADR with me to review and get connected with again. I know what I need to do. Yesterday was total LC. We even went to the movie and I was very happy to just watch the movie, without a soda & popcorn. Too bad the movie was ehhh. I liked AVP much more than AVP-R.

Time to read some DADR pages...

So...
I'm getting ready for 2008. I've got so many things on my plate. For some reason that is how I function always a full plate. Hmm, kinda like my eating habits. Something to consider. For 2008, getting my Lard A$$ down to 210 in time for my knee surgery is highest on my list. Also I'm still very active in my personal growth seminars. I will be doing volunteer work involving them. We participated in a great X-mass event, "Giving Day" where we adopted an entire school and provided food, clothing and gifts for the schools students and familes. We also did a carnival for them. It was amazing.

I'm looking forward to 2008 with wide open eyes.
