We went to my husbands folks after church and of course she'd gone out and bought and cooked everything imaginable. I went to Wendys and got a triple no bun, because I was starving and didn't want to succumb...my daughter and I also did a little mini shopping, so we got the 3rd degree when we got back from Nana - so where did you go eat? We just said no where and went on about our business, even though the evidence was in the car. My daughter had a small frostie, so by the time dinner was done and Nana was pulling out the Lemon cake, Reeses ice cream, vanilla ice cream, and death by drinking red kool-aid, I told my daughter no. We'd just had a long conversation in the car about how we wanted to look and feel, and how we both had to start making better choices. I know its hard for a kid - at least my kid - not to eat sweets when they are just being given out. Nana (naturally) started in on her interrogation -
'So you have her on a diet?' '
No, but Micah already had ice cream so she is fine.'
'Oh, Thats just baby fat. At least let her have some cake.'
Me - a little more coolly - 'Thanks Nana, but she.is.fine.' (aka drop it lady)
'Well, she'll grow out of it'
'If we encourage her to make better choices, yes she will'
Bearing in mind all the grankids except two are overweight, including my daughter.
For some reason, all the boys are tall and sinewy, but genetics didn't play out that way for the girls. Micah only needs to lose about 10 pounds, and I know she can do it, and I really want to show her that I can too. She doesnt want me to have surgery, she thinks I am beautiful just the way I am. i told her, I know I look good, but I want to be better.

Good for you and your daughter. It's hard standing up to sugar-pushers, especially when they're you're own Nana! My own grandkids know they will not get sweets at my house, except raisins or unsweetened applesauce.

So, be adamant! It's your health and your daughter's health, after all, that's of prime importance. Nana will get over it eventually.
