You know, I've never been one for NY Resolutions. I've even written many a rant about why they're a bad idea (in short, many seem borne from the idea that we're just not good enough how we are, and that we have to make a 180 degree turn on a dime to be "okay.")
But I do think they have their place, if done properly. But I like to think of them more as planning for the new year and what I want more of in my life, instead of finding perceived shortcomings. After all, I like to think of myself as darned near perfect...don't you?
So in that vein, some of my new year's resolutions I'd like to address this year, randomly generated on the fly...ha!
- Being kinder to myself. This does not mean unchecked indulgence. It means taking good care of myself! I can indulge, but next time I get the urge, it will be a hot bath with the fancy lotions instead of junk food.
- Doing work that is more meaningful to me. Some of that is working on this site, for example. My "regular" work is fine, but I find a lot more satisifaction when I'm working on something I feel will help others.
- Walking the talk. I'm great at giving advice to others, but it's much harder to consistently take your own advice. (And don't you just hate it when somebody else gives your own advice back to you? Har!)
- Improving my finances. They're ok now, but I'd like them to be better. And putting a little more thought in them should do just that.
- Taking time for me on a regular basis. I'm much better at "doing" for others than for me and I sometimes forget that a happy, healthy Dixie is actually a gift to my loved ones, too. The better off I am, the more I have to share with those I care about.
Part of this overall picture is making better eating choices than I have in recent months. I've been busy and you get sloppy. But I am making my health and happiness a priority in 2008, and I expect to see some good things come of it.
Here's wishing everyone else a good 2008, too! Peace out.
