Hi, I am new here and glad to have the support. I was wondering if everyone does the Atkins low carb program, or do some of you just cut down on certain carbs. I used to have issues with getting too obsessive over food, counting calories, etc. and I don't want to do the Atkins plan. I do see myself, however, cutting out breads, pasta and the like. Further, I can see myself eating no more than, say twenty five to thirty grams of carbs a day. Now, I do love these Dr. Prager's Spinach Pancakes. They have 9gs of carbs due to one of the ingredients being potatoes. I just can't see how that's a big deal. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

    Welcome, Lauren!

We have people here who do it both ways, follow a plan and/or "do their own thing." Early on, folks are always encouarged to find a plan to start with because almost everybody who hasn't at least at one time been on an estabilished plan tends to have problems, or just has serious misunderstandings about what to eat, and/or a poor understanding overall of how LC works. Many folks try to eliminate all carbs, skip veggies (eek!), pile up on the LC convienece/frankenfoods, think they are eating different amounts of carbs than they are, etc.

The folks who start out with a plan often do better overall and understand what to expect, including the idea that pauses and slowdowns in losses are all a normal part of the process.

Whether or not you choose an established plan, however, is much less important than having a good, solid understanding of how LC works.

After making sure you're educated on how LC works overall, I'd encourage you to just give it a go and see what works for you. You know your own triggers better than anyone else here. If you find a plan that suits you, super. If you find you do well without a specific plan, more power to you. The most important part isn't what plan you do or don't choose, or whether or not you eat something made from potatoes for that matter. It's that you improve where you're at and you're doing it in an healthy way. And I'm thinking either with or without a specific plan, you can probably accomplish that.
