Just a few questions

Posted 01-09-2009 at 09:25 PM by heres2hope

I went low carb about 6 years ago and lost 40lbs. I wanted to get preg. and wanted to loose weight before I got preg. and after a few months of frustration from watching what I ate and going to the gym tried Atkins. So anyway its been awhile but I remember the basics...So those bars of Atkins they say 2 net carbs but I'm not sure where those numbers come from bacause they don't add up on the box. They also say ok for any phase of the diet and it seems like Atkins bars would know but I'm still confussed with the numbers not adding up. I don't want to mess up over a bar. Thanks for any tight someone can shed

Net carbs is carbs minus fiber generally, and that is a safe way to calculate. However, many manufacturers also subtract sugar alcohols, and that can be a problem for many people as sugar alcohols do create significant issues for some. See this info.

In general, the more "real" your food, the better you'll do. Some people can have bars without issue, but for many, they cause slowdowns in losses or stalls. The shakes for some reason tend to be less problemmatic.

I'd advise you to get your hands on a copy of the Atkins book again, as having it available will be of tremendous help in staying on course and making informed choices. A caveat, though: newer versions of the Atkins book do push their cuisine somewhat, and based on what I've seen, limiting or avoiding the specialty foods will bring you better results.

    Good luck!

Thanks Goddess, after I posted I looked into so of the back logs and got the same info. I will carry the bars for emergencys only. I wish I had this site 6 years ago. It has been both and encouragement and a big help.
