looking for some encouragement

Posted 01-17-2009 at 10:11 AM by heres2hope

OK the first week I lost 10 lbs and was all excited. I have stuck to the same plan this week and haven't lost a pound! It is now the week-end and I only count the weight on the scale on Monday but I can't get why I havent dropped any weight this week. I know that I am staying in keytosis because I pee on the little stick every morning. My carb count is 20 - 40 and my portions are small. I know I am eatting much less then before. Isn't it too early for a stall? I need advice from the experts!!!! By the way I'm not quiting because I feel great and I know that the weight will come off if you eat less food. I don't even feel tempted to cheat. I just think what color that little stick will be if I eat something I shouldn't and that keeps me in line.

Looking forward to hearing your advice.

Sherri-This is very normal. Losses are not linear, and going a week without seeing the difference on the scale, even eating onplan, after a week with big losses is extremely common.

Are you on a specific plan? Usually people doing Atkins start at 20 carbs (carbs - fiber) and then after two weeks add 5 grams of carbs a day for a week and monitor. Having less dramatic flux is helpful in knowing at what specific carb level you lose versus maintain or gain.

Ketosis does not guarentee losses, although it's helpful. Some people can stay in Ketosis and not lose, and some never hit it and do. So consider that just another checkpoint to help you know how you're doing, not the absolute measure.

It's also very common for people to lose pounds and inches at different times.

In short, work your plan and trust it. Have lots of ways to measure progress so if one-like the scale-isn't showing your work, something else will.

And don't even start talking about stalls at one week without losses, especially with a wide variation of carb counts. If you read your plan, they'll usually explain that this kind of thing is very common, if somewhat scary when your first starting out.

In short, stay the course and make sure you are indeed working your plan. Practice patience and keep making good choices, and they will catch up to you. Honest.

Thanks for the words of wisdom. I know your right and that I really need to focus on positive choices and thoughts. AFTER ALL 10 lbs in a week is great when it took me 10 weeks on weight watchers to do that!
