Thoughts About Starting My Plan This Week

This week is my offical week of starting the famous "Dr. Atkins New Revolution Diet" or
better known as "Low Carb Eating." I have just finished his book and it made such an
impression on me.......as I was one of those people who did not believe in the low carb
diets. Everyone I knew who had been on one never lost the weight and kept it off. I also believed that you could not eat any vegetables or fruits at all and they happen to be my very favorite foods. But I just happen to have a copy of this book as someone asked me to sell a box of books for them and this was in the box. So I read it one night just to see as someone on my homesteading board said Dr. Atkins designed it for heart patients. I never heard that before........so you mean it is a healthy diet????? That was news to me!

My first husband was very overweight and he was always going on the meat and water
Diet. He'd lose weight while he was on it and real fast. But then we would go on a trip
somewhere (he always went on it before we were going away somewhere) and he'd gain it back just as fast as he lost it. Did not seem healthy to me at all. This was a time when I was working out in my own home gym so I was eating healthier. He on the other hand drank coke like it was water. Lived on restaurant food. I'd have a whole dinner prepared and he'd call and say meet at xxxxxx (some restaurant). I'd be so mad. I wasn't the strong woman I am today back then. Or I would have just said no. Anyway now in his early sixties, he does not have good health. Diabetic, still overweight and who knows what else. Can hardly walk. So all the money in the world won't help you if your health is neglected.

Today and tomorrow I am working on my menus and shopping list. I do not think I will
have any trouble starting and sticking to this. We do not eat in restaurants. We do not go to other people's houses for meals and rarely do I ever buy processed foods. I cook from scratch most of the time and much of my vegetables were grown by us. No chemicals of any kind. One of the things I think I am going to like is that when I was thinking of starting a low-fat diet, I was thinking I had to stop using butter and mayonnaise. So I had tried to cut them down and then was going to cut them out before I started the actual diet. Now I don't have to! Love that Dr. Atkins!

My husband does not need to lose weight, but he does need to eat healthier. He supports me one hundred percent in starting this low carb eating and he will basically eat anything I put in front of him as long as it has no onions, cabbage or mushrooms in it. I will make him some goodies on occasion, but I do not think I will be tempted. I know myself well and I know if my weight is coming off, that fact alone, will keep me on this plan for life. I am also changing him from all white flour products and we, in fact, had started doing that already before I read Dr. Atkins' book. I am still going to bake all his bread like usual. For the most part, we will be improving our health while I am losing weight. Looking forward to Wednesday!

yep, Dr. A. was a cardiologist. and if you like natural foods, veggies and fruit, you're gonna be very happy with Atkins I'm betting.

    I'm excited for you, Kat!
