Yesterday we had to run an order to the post office to get it mailed quickly. So we took a quick trip to our local Walmart to pick up a few things. One of our favorite flavors of ice cream is Moose Tracks made by Hershey's. Hubby wanted to buy a treat and that's what he chose but not Hershey's, they had Turkey Hill's. He asked if it would bother me if he got it as he knows how much I loved it. I told him no it wouldn't. But when we got home and him and my son took it out and started eating it BEFORE I even fixed supper......I looked at it and thought about all those chunks of chocolate in it and the tiny peanut butter cups in it. I felt such temptation. But I had bought for my treat a package of Swiss Cheese.......which I love. It is my favorite. It worked! They were eating ice cream and I ate a couple of slices of the Swiss Cheese and I was just fine.

Yesterday my order came from Netrition. I ordered it the day before and it always comes the very next day. I think that is because it is located in Albany which is not that far away. I had to reorder my gingerbread syrup and I also ordered peach. Can't wait to try that! I also ordered Bob's low carb bread mix and baking mix. Can't wait to try them. I also ordered 2 bags of the Almond Meal as that is one of my favorites......use it in my OMM.

The organic coconut oil is something I have been wanting to try as I have heard such good things about it and I ordered that also. So today, I think I will be able to create some good low carb meals! The reviews I read about it seemed like everyone loved it and some people gave it credit for helping them to lose weight. I bought it for cooking and am thinking of using it for baking. Put a little in my coffee this morning and it is good.

I figured that my order is worth it as Netrition's prices are better on some things than my local health food store plus they don't even carry most of the stuff that I want. So I don't have to settle for something else by ordering online. Netririton is my favorite place to shop now. $4.95 for shipping your order no matter how heavy. That is a real good price for shipping those heavy bottles of DaVinci's sugar free syrups!

Wow! The last time I started to place an order from Amazon, I was enticed by the screaming banner ad "Eligible for FREE super saver shipping" on each page. I found so many neat, low carb foods I wanted to try, like the coconut oil, and some super bargains on things I can't afford to buy in local health food store-- ie the carb free Japanese noodles--1.97 from Amazon, almost 6.00 here for a tiny package. Not to mention new flavors of DaVinci Syrup which we don't have here. I ordered about $50.00 worth of groceries but the bill came out to 118.00 with shipping, After I checked and removed everything that DIDNT qualify for super saver shipping, I had one cheese making thermometer and a package of citric acid left! I will try again.

Katlupe, I know you are a homesteader-- and a very sensible woman. How do you feel about the slow food, eat local movement? I am trying really hard to balance it. I truly believe eating locally is better for our bodies, our communities, and our economy--- but then the BIG WIDE WORLD of the internet beckons. Hmmm. sounds like a blog of my own coming up. Take a look over the next few days, I'd love to chat with you and anyone else about SLOW FOOD as a LOW CARB EATER.

Meanwhile! I was just going to congratulate you on the SWISS CHEESE! Hooray. I too have been finding out that low carb treats end up making me more satisfied in the long AND short run. It's kind of hard when "the boys" are eating that stuff in front of us. My family seems to be getting on board pretty well though-- I just noticed yesterday that there are 2 uneaten cartons of Bryer's all natural (the best ice cream we can afford here--simple ingredients and bought only on sale, in our freezer. I hadn't touched them, and I was surprised to realize that neither had anyone else! Feel bad about chucking them, but we just won't buy any more.

    Keep up the great blogs!
Love, many blessings, and a happy Thanksgiving to you and yours,
Oonagh, AKA Susy, the hopeful future goat farmer.

I mean I will try with Netrition. I am DONE trying to buy groceries on Amazon, for several reasons. Thanks for the suggestion! I found a supplier of organic fruits veggies, etc, who don't charge any shipping. Most of their other stuff was for baking, though, so I am trying to avoid that for a while, lol

Here is a couple of links that may help:
Nicolette Hahn Niman: Avoiding Factory Farm Foods: An Eater's Guide

and this one is one I use for finding certain foods in my area:
Local Harvest / Farmers Markets / Family Farms / CSA / Organic Food

I think it is a very good way to eat. Buying from your local farmers, farmers' markets and especially to grow it for yourself.
