Reminding myself that this is all my own fault...

Posted 07-29-2008 at 02:22 AM by LCKaren

I have been beating myself for months because I allowed myself to regain so much weight. While I was beating myself up for regaining 40 pounds, I was eating toast, candy, breakfast cereal, and who knows what all? I kept putting off restarting because of this or that event that would interefere. It was never-ending, and while I was lamenting the 40 pounds, I packed on another 30. Why are human beings so stupid?

Now I just have to lose 30 pounds (not something you can do at the drop of a hat) to get back to the beginning of my trouble, when I just needed to lose 40 pounds.

I don't even feel up to using these numbers. My actual goal weight at the moment represents a loss of just 50 pounds. That's where I was, more or less, in the summer of 2005, before I really lost control of my eating completely.

If I can get back there, I think I will be able to imagine myself making it to my goal weight.

Here's to watching the scale move in the right direction!

Karen, sometimes it's more helpful to make mini goals. Perhaps 10 lbs, or perhaps a size smaller, anything but that big number that sometimes seems overwhelming, impossible, and just unattainable.

Just imagine yourself at your mini goal, and once you get there, you'll be that much closer to your goal weight.

    Hang In There

I'm with Nita - those mini goals is how I got the 100 pounds off. I did it 10 lbs at a time (which worked out to about a size smaller for me). If I'd called it 100 pounds, I'd have been paralyzed with the enormity of the task.

And as far as beating yourself up, that's the one weight management technique I think all of us have a PHD in, and without fail, it fails! Feeling Bad is Fattening | LowCarbEating

How about focusing on how great you feel now, how happy you are that you have a way of eating that leads you to feel good and become more healthy, or congratulate yourself for your work thusfar?

It ALL counts, Karen. Every good thing you do for your body and your health today counts. Be kind to yourself, love yourself, and it's easier to make healthy choices.

    Peace out.
