I'm sure they meant well...

So I just subscribed to Good Housekeeping. I have been picking it up in the market and when I got an ad in the mail for it the price was too good to pass up.

They seem to have inspirational weight loss stories, and I like that.

So I went on their website and clicked on diet and exercise. And interestingly enough, they had a "lower carb" recipe section. And this is where they went off track....

Needless to say, I do not think flour, pretzels and regular pasta are low carb.

Now the site said "lower" not low carb, but still....

And I'm sure they meant well.....but what a disappointment!

It's amazing what can pass for "low carb" these days, or even "lower carb." Lower carb than what, I always wonder?

Lower carb than eating a bag full of sugar followed by a bag full of flour. That's my guess!

What do they mean by "lower" carb? Lower than the national debt? Lower than the temperature at high noon in the Sahara Desert?

No one wants to make an official declaration of what is low carb, or lower carb. So, we leave it up to those who are willing to stick their necks out and devise a plan to guide us, but even they won't give an upper limit, since all of us tolerate carbs differently. Thank goodness for people like Dr. Atkins, the Drs. Eades, etc., for giving us some solid guidelines, unlike the "fluff" articles in women's magazines, written by people who have no clue what low carb is all about.

I ordered some "low carb" cookbooks, little paperbacks, that were full of recipes filled with white flour and sugar. They ended up in the trash.

I also like the info on about.com on low carb; some really good information there.

(Didn't mean to hijack your blog, Mab.)

You should have kept those low carb cookbooks. Never know when you will have to prop up a table! LOL!
