This is why I love this site...

Ok, so I logged on today and noticed the area where it tells you who is online and how many guests there are.

And I was curious. There were 11 members online and 326 guests! Wow!

So I started thinking, why do people come here and read but not participate?

It isn't a criticism, but a curiousity.

I admit. I came here and looked around for a good three months before I signed up.

I wanted to make sure people were nice (which they are) and supportive (which they are) because this has not been my experience on other sites (no names mentioned, why bother?!).

And lo and behold, someone on here already has discussed that they come on here and read but hadn't posted in a while....

Too funny.

But if you have thoughts on why people look but don't write, I would be interested.

Again, not a criticism to those folks who do....just curious, especially since the ratio is soooo off the charts!

that is funny, mab.

one thing you'll notice with the "who's online" area - the phrase "currently active users" is a link, and it actually shows you who is doing what - http://lowcarbeating.com/low-carb-di...ort/online.php

many of those counted are actually search engine bots who crawl the site, so it's not all people, but we do also have a number of lurkers here.

i have heard people say that they often lurk as they are preparing to get back in the swing of things but don't feel quite ready. and i think some people just like following what others are doing. my friend who lurks at a number of boards has said she likes following other people's stories and lives in areas she's interested in, but sometimes just doesn't want to participate herself.

i've also seen it suggested that for some with weight issues, they may not always feel like they are really worthy or feel uncomfortable with the attention of posting themselves...

interesting question!
