It can be confusing when a person decides to try a low carb lifestyle, because there are so many variations.
For example, we hear some who say that you don't have to count calories, just eat until you're satisfied. Others count calores and carbs, and obsess over keeping them both low.
Others feel that we should limit our fat, and choose to eat leaner meats, egg whites or artificial eggs, limit their butter, choose half n half over heavy cream. And then we have the exact opposite, those who feel that we can eat as much fat as we want, especially from meat and dairy products, and we'll still lose nicely and be healthy, too.
Some feel that fruit is a no-no, others will eat only berries and/or melon, others eat the occasional small apple or plum or orange.
And then there's the caffeine question, and whether or not we should use artificial sweeteners, and if we do, which ones should we use?
So, who's right? Probably all of us. Why? Because each of us have different metabolisms, different tastes, different nutritional needs. So, what works for me might not work for you, and your great plan might actually stall my losses.
So, is a low carb lifestyle not viable because of all the variations? Absolutely not! Whether we choose extremely low carb, low carb, moderate low carb, or just lower carb, if it works for us individually, then it's a successful plan. And because there can be so many variations, then there is a plan out there that will suit your needs, that will suit my needs, and the needs of all the others who try this way of eating.
And the wonderful bonus is that, while we're losing weight, we are regaining our health. Fewer aches & pains, better control of blood sugar levels, better ratio on cholesterol levels, the end of heartburn, more energy, fewer emotional swings, loss of cravings, the list goes on and on. And now there is evidence that perhaps avoiding sugar will protect us from cancer, because cancers feed on sugar. Wow!
Perhaps I've rambled on here, but there are a lot of new ones, and some who have fallen off the wagon, and need to gain some perspective. This is a sustainable way of eating, and can be used for the long term. Some of can attest to this, because we've been following our plan for years with no ill effects. dance2
