LOL Cyn!!! At least you tried. But keep trying. One of these days you might actually get the hang or your body might remember how. I find that if I place my feet hip width apart with my left foot slightly more forward than my right foot, I can keep it going and get a rhythm going. Does hers have the water in it or some kind of weights inside? That REALLY helps a LOT.

I've been cleaning like a mad woman all morning since getting back from Curves. All this talk of hulaing makes me want to do it for, uh, maybe 5 mins. We'll see. I'll report back later. After that I HAVE GOT to haul the kiddie crap out to the play house.

... wear Levi's or any other jeans of strong construction. NEVER take them off. Sleep in them, in case you fall out of bed. Wear them in the bath/shower. Naked people are slippery! And, there's the problem of 'nothing to grab for leverage ...
Ah, how that takes me back. ... and to which I would add "and wear a belt ... maybe two belts."

Barb, you're becoming an iron woman, here. Curves, hula hoops, plus a major revamp of house & property!

I did my 3 5-minute stairs thing. Actually, it's really less than that, since I've gotta go down as much as I go up, and down is WAY easier, but at least I'm moving the whole time.

Hey, Maggie, down counts in my book!!!! Yer fightin' gravity then. It takes energy to stay upright on stairs!!!!

Iron Woman, pshaw!!!! I didn't do any REALLY strenuous stuff today, just kept moving. I did do the hula for 5 mins tho just to see how it would feel. I was really feeling it in my joints but made it through. Tomorrow I'll shoot for 7 mins. (if I have time) I AM feeling stronger tho. Before LCing, I was becoming such a weakling. I could barely open a jar of pickles. I'm happy my strength has come back. I was watching a little TV today while doing dishes and crap around the kitchen and there was an Estroven commercial on. I kept thinking........."I hope all this Curves exercise and the other stuff I'm doing will stave off osteoperosis when the BIG M does finally hit." Plus I figure the fats I'm consuming is helping more with cellular repair than when I was hardly eating any fats.

I soooooooo don't want to go to work tomorrow, but they've cut our hours so badly, I get an opportunity to work a full day (maybe) Friday will be a zoo around here getting last minute stuff done. I want to be able to relax Saturday morning........even take a nap maybe.

not sure I can keep up the Curves along with the Ballys. at least not these first few weeks. I can barely lift my arms up today (expected) - tried to do 'easy' curves, but then I'm not really working out either.

Think I'll just do Ballys for a few weeks, and ask the Curves mgr what is the best way to handle. I had to move up to Ballys, Curves just doesn't give me a workout anymore.
I hate not to go, but if I have to choose, it'll be Ballys now.

MK you should really take it easy for a few days and let your muscle heal. That's when the muscle mass increases, during the healing process.

thanks barb - I was thinking that today. I was supposed to meet her tomorrow morning for a fitness eval, stuff like that, and then a circuit - but cancelling. I'll get back in there Monday. Think I need the weekend. Arms are like dead weight right now, and I sure want a chance to heal up properly. Skipping water aerobics tonight too - although I may go sit in the whirlpool after work. That could feel good.
Now what will I do with myself. (not stopping the exercise, just being smart about it for this first week)

Mary Kay - Good idea on dropping the Curves for a while.

Barb - Sounds like you've been busier than a one-armed paper hanger.

Tara - When I FINALLY get around to a thorough house cleaning (I refer to it as house wrecking) I probably burn more calories than a 10 mile walk.

Cynthia - Your Dh doesn't think you need A/c in 100 degree heat??? Is his thermostat broken? LOL@ The hual hoop attempt.

Maggie - Hey stair climbing includes coming down. In fact the down bothers my bad knees worse than the up part.

Charski - Will definitely bow out of the hula hoop challenge. But I will follow it closely.

Well yesterday I did a good 5 mile walk at Tanglewood despite the high humidity. At least I had it finished before 11 so it wasn't so hot (maybe 80).
Then last night I decided to drop in on my dad but they still had my street blocked off because the day care center across the street had burned down yesterday. No one was hurt - Thank God. So I had to make to drive 5 miles instead of 1.5 to his condo. I drive into his parking lot and I see him driving towards me. I wave frantically but he doesn't see me. I make a U-turn to try to get his attention and my car died. Out of gas! I had meant to get some gas on the way to his house but the detour didn't take me past a station, so i forgot. So I got in an extra mile walking in the pouring rain to get gas.
It's still raining cats and dogs (Sophies and Splendas) so I decided that for the first time in 7 weeks I will skip a day walking. Heck I have 55 miles in so far in August so one day shouldn't wreck my efforts.

Oh cheese Rob, you had to walk in the torential rains you are getting from Bonnie? Wowsers. That's the NICE thing about detours, they eat up more of your gas than you plan on. I was just watching the weather channel. You guys on the east coast are getting a double or triple whammy with this cold front slamming into these tropical storms, YOUCH!!!!!

MK, good, glad to hear you're going to take it easy on yourself. Hope your arms feel better soon. The whirlpool idea sounds GREAT!!!!

OK, taters, I have been lurking in this thread for a while, and I am ready to make that big step...

That's right, my couch and I had a little falling out; we were just getting too close and I felt it was time to move on. Not to the recliner; but to really DO the exercises that I kinda play at doing. I've been better about it lately, but I need the proverbial butt-kick on a regular basis. I walk an average of 2 miles a day at work, but that is not enough. SO....

Can I join the Couch Fauxtato challenge? Can I, please??

Well, I'm busier than a one-legged man in a butt kicking contest. I mean, I've written in many a post on these boards what all I do in a day. And there is no end in sight.

I'm glad, however, because it helps to keep me moving.

This morning I was up at 5:30, and outside walking from 6:00am to 6:35. Saturday I'll be increasing the walking time to 45 minutes per day, and I'll keep that up for a week.

Got to work at 8:00am and started from the moment I got through the door. Man, this is our busy season in the steel processing industry and since I'm the "chief cook and bottle washer", I'm constantly on my toes.

Went shopping during my lunch hour for all of Abby's 5th-grade school supplies. I reckon I got everything. Yeesh. WHAT a list!

Came home and the moment I came through the door with all of those bags of supplies, Philip hit me up with the fact that tonight is his guitar lesson. So, I made a quick dinner and cleaned up the kitchen (can't wait until school starts on the 25th and these kids won't be home to mess up the kitchen all dang day), fed and watered the dog, picked up CRAP from all over the living room and study, finally changed clothes, and in a moment I'm going back downstrairs to make sure I have food cooked for John's "lunch" during work tonight. He eats low carb and I make sure there are plenty of grilled hamburger patties and chicken breasts in the fridge.

Whew. I'm tired already and it's still four more hours 'til bed time.

    How's everyone else?

April, you remind me how glad I am that I did my family while I was younger. Your schedule wears me out just thinking about it! I'm so impressed with you being able to go out walking at 6:00. I'm up early, but at 6, I'm just working on getting my heart started.

HEY, TRINA! You're welcomed in this pack of couch folks, ex-couch folks, and those of us just struggling to get our butts off the darned thing!

Rob, you're right about going down, I actually do it a bit slower than going up, since I'm more likely to hurt myself.

OK, Barb & Char.... I'll look for a weighted hula hoop this weekend and give it a spin.

MaryKay, I think you're right to give yourself a little time to consolidate your gains. You're my roll model at the moment.

Today I did only two stair thingies and it was more like 4 minutes than 5. The knees were protesting. Ehhh.
