Well, sheesh! If I keep going like this, I'm not even going to reach my original goal by New Years, much less my new goal.

After a big down last Saturday, I had a 1-pound gain on Sunday, Monday and again today. I'm up to a whopping 213 pounds. Just a pound shy of where I was at two weeks ago. Not good. Not good at all!

Thumbs up Re: Happy New Year Challenge

I would love to be in a challenge over the holidays!! I am back after a long binge. I am sad to report that I have gained almost all of my lost weight back. I have been on induction for 5 days now and I even made it through Thanksgiving! Whoo! Now I have all of the Holiday goodies to pass on. I am in the zone now but I need this group to stay there. Here is to a happy healthy and lighter New Year to us all!!!!

count me In I want to lose 35 pounds By January 1, 2005 I believe I can do. I gain some weight I went from 203 to 218 In a one week is that possible? I guess so with thanksgiving dinner yesterday and with me eating bad all week, well No more because I am starting to have some problems with my breathing I don't look like 218 when you look at me I carry it okay maybe it's because I'm sort of tall I'm 5'7, Today and everyday after today I am staying on my diet until I lose it all, Because I have everything thing known to mankind In my family from diabetes to high blood pressure. wish me luck everyone, and I hope for the best for all of you too.

    Now:218

    current 218

    January goal: 183

    Long term goal 150

ladygirl, you probably are bloated/retaining water from poor eating. You can wake up with a ten poun gain overnight. Not fat but water. In a week you may gain some fat but not 15 pounds worth. If you do induction (if you are on Atkins) or just go back to better eating and drink your water, you should be back to 203 soon.

With the water weight gone your goal will still be ambitious but it does give you something to strive for. I had a high goal on another challenge and missed by just a few pounds but it was fun trying. I'll add you to the list.

    Welcome to the challenge.

Ladygirl: I'm with ya on the gain AND the medical problems! No diabetes, but I do have high blood pressure. I've had a past few years of breathing problems as well. Absolutely frightening, isn't it? My problem was a mixture of undiagnosed asthma, too much weight and an unconditioned heart.

The asthma was diagnosed almost a year ago and has been under control since the summer when the doc added a third prescription that deals with the bronchial spasms that strike me when I exercise or get highly stressed. Now, it's time I start adding walking to my routine. Next will be faster walking and after that I plan to join Curves for Women.

Do you monitor your blood pressure regularly? I haven't been, but I recently pulled out my monitor and have promised to check my pressure at least once a week. I'm hoping it will come down as I lose weight. If it does, I may need to have my BP meds adjusted. (fingers crossed)

Melissa - I've been treated for asthma for the last 20 years. I would go through an inhaler (albuterol) at least every 2 weeks. Used about 3-4 times a day. I had my own nebulizer from havng bronchitis about every year to the point where I couldn't get off the couch. and a few trips to the hospital. I gave up almost all forms of exercise - I'd suffer so bad after.

I started the low-carb at the beginning of 2004, and by February found a major improvement. It had to be some kind of food allergy - although the Dr says thats not likely. My mom says maybe I've just outgrown it.

Not in my opinion. It was the breads/sugar I gave up. I now can actually leave the house without my inhaler and not go into a panic. I barely use it except 1-2 times a month. and I got to start exercising again.

I wish you the best with yours - and hope you see improvement soon.

Okay, time for me to do some math:I'm at 224 now. I want to be at 210 on New Year's Day. That's 14 pounds from now. Hmmmmmm......I need to lose an average of 2.8 pounds per week for the next 5 weeks to do that. Can't really see that happening! I lose (and keep off) less than 2.8 pounds per MONTH. But, really-that's because I fall off the wagon, don't exercise like I should, forget my supplements, don't drink all my water....you get the idea!
What might happen if I had a "perfect" December???? I had a "No-Cheat June" personal challenge this summer. It was kinda fun, seeing if I could go all month without cheating. (I did it!) Maybe I need to make myself a checklist, so I can be sure to do everything I need to do to maximize my chances to lose this weight. This is something I need to do. I'll work on it. Details to follow....film at 11:00. LOL!

No loss for me to report but I have consistantly weighed 188 for 3 days. Now that there is no more dizziness I will be able to exercise again starting tomorrow. Hopefully that will get the scale moving again. It really hasnt moved much recently....I am going to have to become a card carrying member of the glacier club again....Or I am going to hunt down that whoosh fairy and hold her hostage until she is willing to move the scale for me....

    Gotta love these plateaus!

My official report is: No loss. I'm still at 216/211/205 for the challenge. But I'm not giving up! We still have four weeks to go. And I have faith that I'll drop a couple pounds by then. At this point, I'll be happy to reach my original NY's goal of 209...but I'm still setting my sights on 205.
