Thanks for the info! I'll switch to peppermint after lunch, and 4 cups of green tea.

Talking Re: NEW Green Tea Challenge

My favorite tea in the world is mint tea. My family is german and my gma would send me german mint tea bags. To this day i still love a hot cup of Mint Tea. Now i've been doing just the plain ole lipton green tea here lately. I add splenda to it and I about choked when I read barb's post about leaving the tea bags in my cup cause I do that. Apparently thats where the bitter taste is coming from lol! Oh well. I've been doing 2 tea bags here in my rather very large tea cup which hold 2 cups. I don't know why, i read it here and i started doing that. Can someone tell me why? lol. I'm going to add some lemon i think. Oh has anyone tried the mixed green tea that lipton has? I also tried the chai tea...yuck. Didn't enjoy that a bit. Have a great day!

Tracy, the reason some of us do 2 bags in say..........16 oz. is that a normal cup contains about 6-8 oz. If you use 16 oz of water, it prolly waters down the phytochemicals in the tea. But if you use a 16 oz-er, and use two bags, hey, that counts as 2 cups of tea. You're getting the benefits of 2 bags-not diluted, thus 2 cups!!!!

Brewing the perrrrrrrfect cup of tea: MMMMmmmmm
1.) Bring water to a boil, and let it simmer down to when the water stops bubbling. (In other words, don't pour the water immediately after it boils.)
2.) Steep bag for no LONGER than 5 mins. (I prefer 3-4)
3.) Remove tea bag, squeezing all the remaining liquid out of the bag.
4.) Toss bag in the GARBAGE!!!!--not that it becomes toxic waste or anything!!! (or I suppose you could incorporate it into composting material.)
5.) Add any flavorings, sweeteners, etc that you like.
6.) Sit down, relax and enjoy!!!!

Thus the fine art of tea brewing.

    Good advice, Barb.
I've had tea that I steeped and forgot. Let it go 10 minutes or more and it is almost too bitter to drink.

I make my tea in 2 cup batches at home. I use my Pyrex 2-Cup measuring cup to heat the water, then I toss in two bags of tea...steep at least 3 minutes, preferably no more than 5...and then I add Torani or Davinci syrup (about 1-1/2 tablespoons) and a packet of SteviaPlus.

At work, I heat the water in a little "4-cup" coffee maker. It's probably closer to 3 measured cups of water. From this, I make 2 mugs of tea, each using 1 bag. I count each mug as 1 cup. So...I get two cups of green tea from my Mr. Coffee 4-Cup water heating machine. (kind of makes me wonder if Mr. Coffee also figures his profits the same way.)

It is a great day for me. I finally got over to the store and picked up some green earl gray. This has always been my fave tea so i am happy to have it in green!!!

tcpd, I have tried the Lipton mixed green teas--got a box of the assorted last week. I can say i like them all except the plain green--it's just too blah for me. But I think they do a great job on the flavors! Juuuuust right.

    On my 3rd cup today!

Mary, I think we are averaging about 4 cups per day. I do 3 regular during the day and then 1 decaf at night. I've only gotten in 2 cups so far, but almost ready for another one with dinner. Then I'll have my evening cup while I watch the zillions of shows I want to watch tonight on the boooooob-tube.

I'm drinking between 4-6 cups a day, but Barb's right, 4 is about the average. I switch to decaf after 12 noon; caffienated green tea in the morning seems to be just the thing to make the day fantastic :silly:

Drank a 10 oz. bottle on the way to work. I had about 8 oz. with lunch, so I think I need to drink a double while I'm exercising.

Oh, yeah....I heard from Lipton. I wrote them an e-mail about making us some green tea in a bottle....an unsweetened version, as well as a Splenda- sweetened version.

They wrote back and said they had "numerous requests from other consumers" and our input and requests will be "taken into consideration when planning changes to existing products as well as introducing of new products."

$100 says they have green tea (maybe some herbals, too) out in bottles, ready-to-drink by the end of 2005. They'd be crazy not to. What do you think?

Kim, I gotta keep my eyes peeled for the Kombucha, I'm REALLY curious how it tastes. I brew my own Kombucha with green tea, so I know what the REAL thing tastes like. I have to brew a new batch tomorrow. It's getting QUITE potent smelling, sittin' there on my counter. I let it get very vinegary.

I HAVE to go to the store myself and take the time to check out all these different green teas! Usually, my husband does all the shopping, and he is very literal. I can't just tell him to buy some "different" green tea! Last trip I requested Constant Comment Green Tea. He came back with regular CC. He doesn't read labels, just grabs what he thinks is right. Last week I had apple cider vinegar on the list. He called from the vinegar aisle telling me it wasn't there! Duh. It was. I also have to try that Chai stuff!
