Lightbulb 100 days of Yoga/Pilates Challenge

Well, since I like the idea of a 100 days no cheating challenge, I'd like to propose a joint venture - adding a 100 days Yoga/Pilates challenge. I took yoga and Pilates classes for a semester two years ago while I was still in grad school and even though I didn't exercise since, my core is still unbelieveably strong. So, I decided to pick these two puppies back up, doing mixed yoga and pilates exercises every day and then cardio every other day for the next 100 days. Anyone willing to join?

There are several websites that explain yoga exercises and here are two I found (the first one is for yoga at home, the second one for yoga at work):
http://www.abc-of-yoga.com/yogapractice/home.asp
http://www.ivillage.com/diet/tools/y...414762,00.html

Frankly, what worked best for me when picking up these two again last week (heh, New Year's resolutions! :-)) was renting exercise videos from Blockbuster for a week - after a week, the moves and the entire exercise becomes a routine and the tapes are no longer necessary. Well, Blockbuster doesn't seem to have late fees anymore anyway, so... :-)))

Anyhow, just wanted to throw this idea out there!

Dahlia

I actually tried Yoga for the first time yesterday Dahlia and I really liked it. I ordered a begginers tape and it should be here within the next couple days.

I am doing my own little 100 day excercise challenge in my head along with the cheat free challenge. I'm not going to do Yoga everyday, but I'll post here the days I do yoga if you would like and I will definatley pop in here and cheer you on!!!

Thanks Shimmer! I really appreciate your support - as well as the welcome note on the other thread. I cannot begin to tell you how exhilarated I was finding this website and this message board since I am doing this whole thing truly by myself and it gets really hard from time to time....

Anyway, glad to hear you enjoyed yoga and I hope you will find it satisfying in the future. Also, good luck with your exercise challenge! What kind of program did you design for yourself?

I walk everyday 2-4 miles a day, stationary bike 30 minutes 2-3 days a week, weightlifting 3 days a week. My resolution this year was to try the yoga and I liked it so Im going to fit that in as well.

And I'm glad you found this board. It is so supportive and positive. Its become my main source of support for this woe.

I found it funny to find a challenge dedicated to pilates. Although I'm mostly into lifting and running and all the basic military workouts, I work pilates into my routine everyday. I find it very relaxing and I love it. I'm definately in on this one!

Great workout, Shimmer. I usually do about 30 minutes cycling or elliptical a day, plus now yoga and pilates. I had a skiing accident long ago, and everything works fine now, but walking long distances still makes my hands swell up for some reason. :(

Please, do post when you do your yoga workout.

Thanks for joining, Megan! I started the challenge today and actually did two hours - one of each. It's so invigorating and relaxing in the same time. No workout but pilates and yoga makes me feel this way. :king: How did your day go?

I have several but one of my faves is the crunch pick your spot pilates.great to use when I work because I work 4 -12 hr night shifts a week.so I am commiting to 10" a day on my working days and a full work out on days off. plus a few yoga postures on my down time at work.

Alright, so I totally screwed up my challenge already! I was out of town for 4 days and needless to say I didn't have my pilates DVD or anytime to do it, but I"m still down to 196.... so no complaining coming from me. 7 lbs to my next minigoal! I'll be getting back to my pilates today so no worried!

Good to hear that, IS150! Keep us posted. I am cheering for you here till you reach your next mini-goal - and after that, of course. :-)))

I did good on the yoga/pilates in the past three days, but it's somehow getting increasingly difficult to do push-ups. Guess it will take more time to get those muscles to stop "complaining". :-))

And, welcome to the challenge, Rae! Keep us posted on your progress.

Well since I got home, I"ve been the pilates addict. I've even got my mom working with the 20 minute video. I love the accelerated work out, but that one is alot more advanced, and she just isn't ready for it. So I do that one during the day before work, and then her and I do the 20 minute when I get home from work at night. Its kind of nice to have something in common with her again... since she isn't driving me to soccer practice 7 days a week, and she's the only one who is officially still a girl scout. LOL.

how hard is it to do the yoga and or pilates without having ever done them before? did you have to have good flexibility to begin with.or are you adding that as you stretch ect.?
i have never done a dvd for exercise of ANY kind..but since i am home almost everyday quite a bit of the day now.. i might just give something a shot...
any suggestions or hints?
right now i do the gazelle freestyle elite.. and walk outdoors when the weather is good... i also do some light (3.5)hand weights for my arms..
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!

Kim, I had virtually NO flexibility when I started yoga and pilates. Pilates is not so much about flexibility, it actually builds you a strong core (abdominal and back muscles) and makes muscles longer and leaner. Yoga's flexibility comes with time, but not a long time - in a couple of weeks of exercising, you will see noticable differences. Don't be afraid to try. Blockbuster has some good DVDs for both yoga and pilates, try them out when you get a chance and see which one works best for you. I promise you, you will enjoy these exercises!

Good luck and let us know how it goes!
