| Dr. A sites a couple of studies wherein tea (in this case oolong) was shown to have a beneficial effect on blood sugar readings in those with type 2 diabetes. He feels all teas would have these benefits, but recommended at least 2 cups of green tea per day to his diabetic patients. That was because green tea has less caffeine and more of the polyphenols and catechins than oolong or black. He also advised (pretty much counter to most green tea brewing instructions) to use boiling water to pour over the leaves or bag and to steep it for at least 3 minutes - to release the maximum amount of beneficial stuff out of it.

| Ahhhhhh, our wonderful Dr. A!!!!! Maggie, take a look at this thread at LCLmag: There's a discussion brewing here about green tea in the second to the last post. Then there's my response. Water vs. Coke thread: Why we should drink more water..... Any thoughts?

| Barb, I think you're right about a junky diet and calcium! A junky diet can cause problems on many levels with many things. I also think I'm not giving up my green tea!

| My big thing right now is Black Cherry syrup and cherry CS tea with my green. It's YUMMY!!! I keep switching flavors depending on what syrups I have. LOL Max, I truly believe that SUGAR and junky carbs are the culprit for LOTS of health problems. That's just me. But studies just don't take anything in the food area in isolation. So it's hard to know if the thing they are testing is a culprit or if it's the junk. Call me a skeptic, but food related studies are just so unreliable. At least when it comes to humans. Sure you can isolate stuff when doing studies on rats and have very controlled conditions. But we aren't RATS. I always take studies results with a pound of salt. Oh well, "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing."

| I think you're right. Maybe it's just left over from reading Sugar Blues but I really think half the benefits we ascribe to Atkins are simply from cutting out the white sugar. ObTopic: five cups of green and one cup of red so far today! Whee! |

| Hey, I'm still here, drinking my green tea and loving it. I carried a "car-cup" full with me to work this morning, REFILLED it at work, then had some AriZona at lunch. I started to have some at dinner tonight (I ate late), but I know I need some more water. I think....no....I KNOW: I'm hooked! I'm almost positive I saw an ad for instant powdered green tea by Lipton. I'm quite sure it has sugar in it, 'cuz it looked like a paper can. Lipton is pretty good about having s/f tea mixes, too. Guess I'll go back to the Lipton site and see what's new there.

| You can get a powdered version of the Arizona Diet Green Tea with Ginsing at www.arizonabev.com - this is sweetened with spenda - I keep a jug going at all times - and go through it pretty quickly.

| MK, I got a tin of that for my birthday (our birthday!) from my bosses, along with some other stuff. I like it, although it was hard to get mixed. The female one told me she saw bottled Lipton green tea at either WalMart or Target. I e-mailed them about this months ago......remember? (She said it wasn't diet.) Barb, I read about the family stuff on the turtles thread....yikes! Hang in, girlfriend! Maybe we need to start a "send your favorite tea" chain thing of some sort. We could all mail a bag of our favorite tea to each other (2 to you this month, Barb) so we could sample some different ones. I hope you all had a nice Easter.

| Max, that's not a bad idea!!!! It would be kinda fun!!!! We had a nice Easter dinner with the In-laws, took DSS's 3 yr old daughter with us. His wife stayed home with the sick little one. DSS was moved to a reg. room out of ICU. I ate a little of my SIL's potato dish and a teeny piece of cake. I had lots of fruit on Sat., so I'm expecting a bit of a gain...........but we'll see. The scale didn't move this morning.........that's good. I brought tea with me to SIL's but ended up not drinking it. Had a glass of wine and half a diet coke there instead. I've done dismally on water since Thurs. Hoping to get back to normal soon.

| The powdered mix - doesn't mix right away, but after about an hour of sitting in the water - the lumps are all gone. I just make a big jug up in the morning, and it is ready by lunchtime. My son's 'friend' is staying this week, and she found a BIG jug of it ready made. I'm going to ask where they found it, when they finally get up.

| MK-I've purchased the AriZona Diet Green Tea w/Ginseng in the gallon jug at Walgreen's, CVS, and WalMart. Here, it costs about $2.50-$2.88/gallon. The jugs are made of really sturdy thick plastic. I took the label off one of them and I'm using for my water jug. It's great. I "killed" alot of those milk jug type gallon jugs. They just don't bounce as well when you drop them! HEY RENEE!! PM me your address so this Chai green can come live with you!
