| Barb - LOve Aldis! 3 pack of hearts of romaine for $1.29 when my favorite local market charges $3.99 (though the hearts are much larger). Yes, that's part of it. She tires easily. But it's also to keep her from being exposed to the things she's not yet vaccinated against. She doesn't get her second series of vaccinations until the 27th and there's another series to come 5 weeks after that. And then there's the issue that she may still be a carrier for the virus. So poor sandy does look sad when I leave her in her cage and take off with sophie. Did a very pleasant and brisk 7 mile walk at Tanglewood yesterday. My pedometer read 9.7 miles at the end of the day.

| I have truly grown roots to my sofa. I guess I decided that my shin splints were a good excuse to eat poorly as well as sit on my butt. Yes, I got shin splints. That's what happens when you walk a lot in bad shoes (loafers). I haven't had them since high school and really thought last week I had broken my tibia. But then I remembered back to high school track when we had to run (I threw shot but we still had to run) and this happened then as well. So now I will start all over again with better shoes. I had them at home I don't know why I didn't wear them. And less milage on the bike. I didn't think that caused it but did aggrivate it.

| Poor Sandy!!!! BUT, you gotta do what you gotta do to keep her healthy and other dogs healthy. Noel, back in the beginning when I hadn't joined Curves yet and was just walking around my neighborhood, my shins would hurt something fierce (and I was wearing pretty good shoes then) so I mentioned it on this board and someone suggested stretching before going out. So I did that and it made ALL the difference. So, I would sit on the floor with both legs extended, toes pointing up to the ceiling, and bend over as far as I could and grabbed my toes. Hold for at least 15 secs. Then repeat at least 5 times. Another good one is to have one leg planted on the ground and the other up on a chair with the arch of your foot on the edge of the chair seat. Lean in and hold 15 secs, repeat 5 times with each leg. Another one is to sit in a chair and flex both feet, trying to point toes up to the ceiling and heels to the floor. Hold for 15 secs and repeat 5 times. Then alternately, point toes down to the floor, hold and repeat. These stretches work the shin muscles. I found them to help tremendously. The shin splints from what I understand is just from the muscles being cold. HTH!!!!! Didn't go to Curves again today. I kinda feel blah. So I will try again tomorrow morning.

| Thanks for that Barb. Yes, I suppose good stretching would be important. That is probably why I did not get them while doing my WATP or Richard Simmons, because they always stretch in the beginning and end. Im going ot try and do my 1 mile WATP tonight. With LOTS of stretching

| Stretching is a very good thing!!!!!! When I do it, I LOVE it!!!! It's good for the muscles AND bones!!! I had gotten lax on stretching at Curves, but I am doing it again. The new place has the stretching mat in the same room with the exercise machines, so now I can stretch and still gab with people still going around the circuit. It's all good!!!!!

| Managed to get my 10,000 steps in yesterday. I have found that I'm not too bad if I walk downhill or on flat ground. But as soon as I start walking uphill, the coughing starts. I WILL GET BETTER. Not doing so well today but will soon take Lance for a short walk (there is one road close by that is reasonably level). Barb - I really hope you don't catch your husband's cold. I haven't had problems with shin pain but will try your suggestion on stretching first, just in case. Rob - I think it will be quite awhile before I can match the distances you are doing. My pedometer currently reads 3.8 km (which I think is around 2 miles). Gives me something to build towards though. No?l - I look forward to hearing if the stretching helps.

| Noel - yes a good pair of walking shoes is extremely important if you want to walk for exercise. I replace mine every 3 months or less. Barb - Thanks for the stretching techniques. I've gotten very lax about stretching and I need to get back to it. Colleen - You're doing very well. Don't try to compete with my OCD milage. LOL Though I didn't get in a formal walk yesterday (experiencing hip joint pain) my pedometer read 3 miles at the end of the day.

| I did one mile of WATP last night and stretched for an extra long time after and it felt good. Today I have no cramps in my calves.

| I surprised myself by doing over 15,000 steps yesterday. Did take Lance for a walk and apart from his utter confusion about why we were walking up and down the same stretch of road, he enjoyed himself. I coughed a bit less today so I think I am definitely on the mend - but am still having difficulty eating much of anything. I just have no appetite and everything still tastes wrong. Stupid cold. No?l: I'm glad the stretching seems to have helped. Rob: I'm trying to use you as inspiration to motivate me to get moving.

| Noel - 1 mile watp is like 2 miles regular walking. Colleen - Good going on all those steps! We can inspire each other. The last warm day yesterday (high 82) had me really into a late morning walk. Did 7 1/2 miles at Tanglewood.

| Noel, glad the stretching helped. And it's something we can do while just watching TV. It's relaxing and warms up the muscles. I find that AFTER my workout at Curves, I have to stretch or the next day I am sore. SO stretching before warms the muscles up and stretching after keeps one from getting sore. Colleen, I sure hope you are feeling better. DH woke up this AM with a bit of a relapse. He seems to feel okay for one day and lousy the next. I do NOT want it!!!!! I wash my hand all the time. Rob, are you getting hit with this cold front? It was 33 this morning when I looked at the thermometer. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr. But we're supposed to warm back into the 60's on Sat. I plan on doing some leaf blowing then. Yesterday and the day before it was just too darn windy. I would have been like encountering the Borg...............futile. Went to Curves yesterday and worked the machines hard and stretched afterward. I am going to try to go in tomorrow too.

| Did the one lmile of three again. I thought about going longer but my lower calf to my ankle said no. So I listened and stopped. Baby still loves Leslie. He would put his hands over my knees when I was doing the knee lifts as if to say "reach them higher momma!" The weather her has been so nice. I'm loving it. Now if it were lighter out in the evening it would be better.

| Yes, he was doing that again last night. Brrr. Outside that early in the cold. Not fun! I did the first mile again last night. I am hoping by next week to move to doing the first two miles (it's a three mile tape). I need to find my dvds so when I build up again I can do my Richard Simmons. I know they are around but with the move got put some place that I cannot find them.
