Noel, I know what you mean, being from the midwest. It's really important to have that stuff ready. Whether it's spring and tornado season, or winter and snow season, something weather-wise can always throw us a curveball. When our power went out, my DS-S was watching the Bears game before we came to my house. I have a little black & white garage sale TV in my basement just connected to the roof antenna, and I told him we could go down there and get some stuff done and he could watch the game. The power outage changed that!!! And I didn't even have a portable radio I could stick batteries in so he could listen to it!!!! I need to re-think this weather thing now. I suppose I better get out in the garage and have the snow shovel and thrower at the ready. I have a feeling we are going to have a VERY extreme winter this year, seeing as how this entire year was one of extremes from tornado outbreaks, droughts and hurricanes. The temerature drop might be an indication of what it's going to be like this winter. YUCK!!!!!(I'd rather have lots of snow than bitter cold air.)

Got too engrossed in cleaning my bedroom today and forgot to go to Curves. Gonna try to go tomorrow AM and Sat. AM.

Colleen - You're doing great on the step counts!

Barb - 15 degrees F is -9 celsius. brrrrrrrr
27 degrees here this morning and I'm hating that with a puppy that insists on getting out every 2 or 3 hours.

Noel - even where I am it never hurts to be prepared. I always keep extra canned goods even though I don't really like much that comes in cans except green breans and sauerkraut and tomatoes.

High 52 yesterday felt a lot colder with winds gusting to 20 mph. I was ready to head back after a mile but I said to myself, Self, if you turn back in 52 degree weather there will be no more walks until April. I'm addicted to walking and my dogs would miss them. So I plodded on and did 6 miles. Not another soul was at Tanglewood (except golfers who'll be there at armageddon).

Didn't do so well yesterday - only around 8,000 steps (since I didn't have anyone hassling me I forgot to record it), but the pedometer is still on and I think I'll make it to 10,000 steps by tomorrow morning (Sat for me) and if I try real hard I can get up to 20,000 steps for 2 days.

Rob - I understand about the golfers, my brother has been known to go golfing in the dark if the weather is okay (he lives in Stockholm which is so far north they don't get daylight in the middle of winter and don't get night in the middle of summer but due to prevailing tradewinds has quite a temperate climate).

Barb - I'm glad I'm here not where you are, about the lowest the temp gets here in winter is minus 2C or 28F, but since the houses here aren't built to keep out cold, it feels colder than I remember winter was in Ottawa. Everything is built to allow the cool air to get in whic makes winter quite challenging here. It's probably even worse for Beachfox who is in Queensland.

If winter in North America is really bad, we'll probably have a really hot summer. I actually hope so, as I blinked last year and missed summer......

I've now got a really dumb question - what does WATP stand for?

WATP = Walk Away the Pounds. It's a walking program indoors. It's really a nice workout. Especially the four mile walk that I graduated to last year and hope to again by the end of this year. But for now I'll stick with ones and twos.

Rob, good for you getting out in the chilled air. The dogs and you WOULD miss it if you didn't get your walks in.

Thursday is my planned night off so I did nothing.

Colleen - True golf nuts will play in a hurricane. LOL 8,000 steps is not bad. 20,000 is excellent!

Noel - yes, sophie gets depressed if we go for more than one day without our walks.

I made myself go out and walk yesterday after a really slug-like friday. I don't think my steps made it into triple digits. lol So yesterday I went to Tanglewood and after a seven mile hike back to the car I decided to add another mile and make it 8 miles. That brought my total for November, so far, to 80 miles.

I know that November is almost over, but is it too late to join? My WATP DVD *finally* showed up (4 weeks shipping!!!), and I think I need a challenge to get me going since I haven't even tried it yet and I've had it for several days!

I managed to average out to 10,000 steps every day over the last 4 days. Apart from a persistent cough when I'm at work in the airconditioning, I think I've finally licked the bug. If I could do them, I'd be doing somersaults and cartwheels

Welcome Katie. This is a join anytime challenge and is great for those like me who really aren't up to joining a full blown exercise challenge. I have looked at the exercise threads but get so depressed when I can't manage in a week what they do in a day.....

No?l - thankyou. I'll check WATP out to see if there is anything that might inspire me.

Rob - I can relate to the dog depression. Since I manged to take Lance for a walk for the last 3 days, tonight when I got home really late and didn't manage to take him out I have been subjected to the full blown sulks. He has finally given up and moved back to the much softer couch to sleep.

You're doing good colleen. Sophie and sandy won;t be getting any decent kind of walk today since it's been raining continuously today.

Wasn't feeling well yesterday but knowing thsi rain was coming I forced myself to walk 3 miles.

I love WATP. I have been so busy and got so much done thisweekend that I was proud of myself. Lots of walking. Got my Christmas shopping done yesterday and I am happier for it.

Haven't done "formal" exercise but tons of informal and tonight I will try and get out and rake. The weather is so nice lately. I have company coming but I am thinking after they leave and baby is in bed I may get ambitious. I bought a new rake and am dying to try it out...my exciting life.

Are we sure we can't catch people viruses over the internet? Hope you feel better soon Rob.

Today was 12,057 steps. I'm definitely on a roll here. Now I just need to convince myself that Christmas is next week so that I get all my shopping done this weekend. If I get up to 10,000 steps each day for the next two. I'll get over 500,000 steps since I started on 7 October.

I didn't take Lance for a walk tonight, but my son did so at least I'm not getting the sulky looks.

No?l - I'm glad you are getting back on track too.

Katie - Have you tried the dvd yet?

Noel - Done with Christmas shopping? Good going. I'm not even at the list making stage yet.

Colleen - Not positive about the virus thing. I think what I had was more to do with the dreary day and lack of sleep.

I was a vegetable yesterday. except for 20 minutes of cleaning I read in bed half the day and watched tv and played on my computer the other half.

Rob - whatever is causing the problems, I really hope you feel better soon, even if all you need is a good sleep.

Instead of working out on Sunday, we rearranged all of our furniture in the living room. Not "real" exercise, but I did all the vacumming, all the low dusting, and picked up all the stuff the kid refused to do

I did my WATP DVD last night, and it was awesome! I can't sustain the arm movements through the whole thing, don't even think about using weights yet, but I did complete the whole thing! I was so proud of myself that I was dancing around when I was done, and my son gave me a high five! My DH thinks I'm insane, but I don't care. I even got rewarded with a big whoosh this morning, so I'm more motivated than ever to keep exercising!
