Default Why wait for New Year's to make a resolution, just do it now!

So as many of you know, I have been a member of this website since the beginning of 2004, but although I have been a loyal blogger, my LC eating habits often don't keep to the same high standard that I have set for myself here. Being off of LC for nearly a year now, my weight has ballooned back up to 240(only 5 lbs lower than my all-time high) and the depression of the whole thing has followed.
Now don't get me wrong. I want to be thin. I want to be healthy. And I do want all the positive effects that come with LCE, but the fact is, the life has interrupted all my good intentions. So all my negative feelings have come the the forefront, and I am determined to lose the weight. So my fiance being the supportive man that he is, and his determination to help me be happy in my own skin, we have made a bit of a wager. Now our anniversary is January 1st..... it really starts the year off on a good note.... so I'd like to start 2007 off a bit thinner and happier than our anniversaries before.... so he's the little wager. I chose the goal weight, and he chose the date, and then we agreed on the terms.
Goal weight: 140 lbs
Deadline: January 1st 2007
Terms: If I lose the weight..... a new wardrobe and a beach vacation to the destination of my choice...
If I don't lose the weight....none of the above, and he gets 1000 dollars.

Now most people would say that since we are engaged and we do share our finances, that this seems a bit ridiculous, being a financial bet and all. But the fact is, we both keep seperate savings accounts that hold "just in case" money that is pulled out of our checks on paydays. So basically it does work out and make sense for our little wager.

So the bet started about a week ago, and thus far I have lost 5 lbs, but I have 95 lbs to go and I have a little over 9 months to get it accomplished. Doesn't seem like a huge feat, but for me it would be. I think I was about 12 years old the last time I weighed 140 lbs. And not to mention my obsessive compulsive nature that relates mostly to weight and food.(there are other things but body image kind of comes to a head alot more forefront that the rest). And above and beyond all that, my biggest issue it staying on track and eating properly. I know that LC and Atkins works extremely well, even without tons of workouts and such, but for me, it's a matter of focus and timing. I work crazy hours, budget is tight and Andrew(the fiance) is skinny and loves carbs. So basically even if I have the best of intentions, the road will be long and hard. It would make me a member of the hundred pound lost club when I was finished, and I might be able to stop obsessing over weight for a hot second, but it's getting there that will be my ultimate antagonist. So, my plan.... low carb.....my issue....sticking to that plan. I guess it all comes down to me.

SO I've been typing this long spiel and no where in it have I stated why it's posted in the challenge board. Well this is what I figured, we all end up making those new years resolutions to be better in the coming year, so why not give up on that, and be better before that new year begins. So here's the challenge to myself and to everyone who would care to join.

Set a goal, a measureable one, and challenge yourself to meet it by the new year, instead of waiting to act upon next year's resolution. The deadline for this challenge is January 1st 2007.... that gives you 9 months and a few weeks. Lots of time to think big, and act even bigger(or smaller as my goal pertains to this). LOL. Good luck everyone and hope to see you in the challenge!

My goal.... to be 140 lbs by January 1st 2007.... a 100 pound weight loss!

Megan, I hope you meet your goal, and that along the way you discover how much healthier you'll be doing this woe. Keep coming back for encouragement.
