| Super Walmart is always a big walking time for me as well. I'll be going this Thursday early morning. And I know I have to get something from hardware way in the back of the store on one side and something from dairy way on the other. Better put on my waling shoes that day.

| Super WalMart just about kills me! By the time we finish all the shopping, DH checks out and I find a bench to sit on, or I'd never make it to the car. We always have to park out away from the store. The old knees just don't like big shopping days. However, since I've been faithful on the gazelle, they don't ache as bad, I have better range of motion, so perhaps the next shopping trip will be easier. We'll see.

| Here's an article that says that even increasing activity a little reaps big benefits. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060605/...eversible_dc_1 So, keep it up!

| My knees are what cause me the most trouble now. I wore better shoes on Sunday thank goodness, otherwise my knees would have been worse than they were. Tonight I decided to tackle trimming my florsithia bush. I don't know if that's how you spell it but when people tell me the name that's the way it sounds. Well it took two hours of straight trimming with the last 15 minutes spent hauling the branches with a wagon to the parking slab so they could dry out a bit before I bundle them. There is more on the parking slab than there is left in the bush but it hadn't been done for many many years. I remember the first time I saw our landscaper do that to a bush. I thought it would never survive. But it came back so much better. This will do the same. And it gave me quite a workout. Especially my arms because the branches were pretty thick. So a lot of arm strength required. I am so ready for a good night's sleep.

| I did 16 minutes on the gazelle that equals to nearly 3/4 of a mile. I also increased the reps with the band. I'm going to get up to 30 minutes a day, every day, or bust!

| Bethany - Walmart is one of my rainy day walking places. I've clocked 6/10 of a mile on my odometer just shopping there. I mean without trying to exercise. Nita - What do you think your ultimate goal will be for the gazelle? Glad it seems to helping with the knees. I know that since i ghaven't been able to walk I am much stiffer. Thanks for the link! Noel - zoo trip, mattress moving! You're burning mega calories! It's spelled forsythia if it's the yellow flowering bush I'm thinking of. I really am tempted to walk today but I think it would be prudent to wait until i get the okay from the Dr. this friday. |

| Since WalMart here is about the only place to walk indoors in this small town, I do frequent it. Walking outside is nearly impossible, with temps in the high 90s. It does get down to about 70 at night. I just can't seem to get up early enough to beat the heat, and it takes a while for temps to cool down at night. I do try to park farther out in the parking lots of WM & the grocery, but that's not very far. I did get an exercise bike from my sis yesterday, so I'm gonna try to use that every day, if I can. I put it in the living room in a spot where I can easily see the TV. Why sit still when your legs can be moving, right? I suppose. It's just gonna take a while for it to become habit, if I stick with it. |

| Yes, forsythia, my neighbor probably isn't happy that I now can look right into her yard and I cut away half of her shade by her sitting bench but I don't care becaue she's a *b* about so much anyhow. And it's so much healthier for the bush. The heat is a killer this year here as well. Usually it's about 10-15 degrees cooler than it has been. And they say there's no global warming. I think Walmart is a great place to walk. Last year I would go there and not buy a thing and just walk with Xander.

| Another link on the benefits of moving to a more active lifestyle - slowly and without having to join a gym. http://www.find30.com.au/ Still trying to work up my steps and expect to be more successful after my exam is over tomorrow. Did take Lance on a 30 min walk the other evening. Need to do a lot more as my back is all tight again.

| Great link, Colleen. I did 16 minutes on the gazelle, and did 50 reps with the resistance band on each exercise. Tomorrow I'm going to try for 17 minutes. On the gazelle you can continue to go easy, or push harder. I alternate easy with pushing, doing the harder movements for 1 minute at a time. I have been increasing the pushes to 1 1/2 minutes, and doing them more often, although I try to have a full 2 minute cool down before I get off the machine. By next week I hope to increase the pushes to 2 minutes at a time, doing 20 minutes total. 16 minutes was .77 miles, BTW.

| Bethany - With temps like that You're smart to walk indoors. Nita - she'll get over it I'm sure. Colleen - Thanks for the link! Nita - Steady progress! More for the dogs sake than my own I did a 1 mile walk, more of a mosey with lots of rests. I really enjoyed it though i doubt i expended very many calories during it. Dogs were thrilled after not getting to go for a "good walk" for about 8 or 9 days. |

| Got on the bike today 7 did 3.5 miles in 10 minutes. Tomorrow I may add some resistance and try to equal the time & distance from today. |

| Sat my exam this morning and I hope I went okay. But I'm feeling very sad now as when the exam was over my first thought was to ring my dad; unfortunately he died 16 years ago. I didn't remember until after the exam but I guess I always used my dad to recentre myself after exams when I was younger. Went to the cemetary instead. Nita - well done on the gazelle. Bethany - great work Rob - the dogs may sulk but they will survive. I know you don't need the advice but keep it slow. Please send some heat in this direction.

| Bethany - excellent speed! That equates to 21 mph. Colleen - Sounds like you dad is always with you. Yes slow is all i can manage right now. Tried to do some walking at Tanglewood yesterday but just managed about half a mile, slowly. |

| Rob, slow and steady will win the race. The hare pooped out, remember? So, for a while, just be a tortoise, until you get all your strength back. I did 17 minutes on the gazelle, and increased the periods of more intense working out. The hardest part of all this is having to get up a little earlier to do this. I know if I wait until evening I won't do it.
