| Dinner last night was Bob Evans' sausage links, four ounces of Swiss cheese, and green beans. I was geeking for something sweet after dinner (per usual), so I did what the book said and had a large cup of coffee (decaf) with Sweet-n-Low and heavy cream. I had a handful of pork rinds for a snack later.

| Dinner for me was chicken tenders and a cup of steamed cabbage with butter. My something sweet was ricotta and cottage cheese mixed with sweetener and vanilla extract. I actually stopped at Vons yesterday on my way home to get pork skins and heavy cream. They didn't have any pork skins and after I paid for my purchases I realized that I had forgotten to pay for the cream. I didn't want to take the time, and hold up the line to pay for it so I just gave it back to the box boy...oh well. I actually do better without cream in the house so maybe it happened for a reason!

| We had baked fish with salad last night, and homemade tartar sauce, just mayo & sf pickle relish. Munched on pork rinds, and had some hot tea. Breakfast is egg salad. Decaf w/cream. |

| Nita - Mmmmmmmmm. Baked fish. What kind of fish? Vickster - Double-Mmmmmmmmmm. Steamed cabbage. One of my FAVORITES! I had the same lunch today that I had yesterday. Dinner was a piece of steak. I wasn't too hungry. Sitting here right now with a cuppa decaf with cream and Sweet-n-Low. The scale reflected a 1-pound loss since Monday morning.

| April, it was blue hake, a thick white mild fish. Very good. Last night we had sausage and eggs for supper. And cheese, cheddar. I didn't feel the need for a snack last night, either. Question: do any of you think soy or whey protein isolate should be allowed on our basic woe? They are usually 0 or 1 carb per serving. I was thinking of perhaps supplementing with a shake once in awhile. When the book was written, those things weren't popular, but now they are all over the place. What do you think? |

So...I had a little battle with self control last night so I am cutting out the salads for a few days to regain the control that I seem to be struggling with. I will basically be eating meat and eggs for the next few days. Dr Atkins states in the book that this is a safe practice. He also says it's safe to remain on induction for longer periods so that is my plan to switch back and forth between meat & eggs and induction until I feel that I have better control. Have a great day ladies

| I'm following this rule of thumb: Count each and every carb, eating only those foods from their natural state (except for Sweet-n-Low), and ingesting no sugar whatsoever. So, if the SPI has no sugar, and if I counted the carbs, I'd go ahead and ingest it.

| I personally don't see anything wrong with a diet rich in protein and fat with hardly any carbs, particularly in light of Stefansson's research on the native north american folks. They were a mighty healthy group, prior to the introduction of the western diet. Having the diabetic issue, my own diet these days is closer to Bernstein than to "modern" Atkins. Bernstein counts every carb as a carb and calls for a 6-12-12 (Breakfast, lunch, dinner) distribution of carbs each day. I've found that the less I "deduct" from the total carb count, the better off I do - in terms of BGL's and weight. I think you gals are on the right track.

| I remember the first time I did the Atkins approach, before net carbs, I wasn't hungry, I was able to stick to the plan so much easier. Just counting carbs, period. Not deducting anything. It was so much simpler. Now that my life is more hectic, this has got to be the best way to go. I'm so tired of sitting still within a 5 lb range, losing, but gaining it right back, not getting past that number that has been so elusive for so many months. So, I'm in this for the long haul. Tonight we had a nice pork roast, and finished off the coleslaw, had a handful of our itty bitty but very sweet tomatoes, and them some whipped cream with a little protein powder and 0 carb chocolate sauce (Walden Farms) for a pudding. I'm full, satisfied, not hungry, not looking for anything else to nibble. It's terrific! The first go-round with Atkins, I never got sick the entire time I was low carbing. Not even a cold. No sinus problems. Nothing. Even my periods were easier. Wish I could have stuck with it. I'd be a skinny minnie now! |

| I hear you Nita. I find this basic version to be so much easier to stay on plan with. I think that some of us just really have to keep the carbs at a minimum to see any weight loss and have the wonderful energy that comes with this WOE. so today I had B-2 egg muffins (each one is an egg, a piece of bacon and a tiny bit of cheese L-a big roasted chicken breast S-a handful of pork skins D-a hamburger patty and 2 fried eggs with some pepperjack cheese. I think I'm going to have some SF jello and go to bed

| I'm experiencing the "no hunger" and "high energy" perks that come with following the OAP (Original Atkins Plan). I didn't feel like eating dinner last night, but forced myself to do so. The scale reflected a 4.5-pound loss this morning (since Monday morning's weigh-in). I've been folowing the OAP since Monday. I realize it's just water weight at this stage of the game, but it's great for my frame of mind.

| April, that's fantastic! Even water weight is great, because that water makes you feel so uncomfortable. I have the "no hunger", but I have never had "high energy", but just a little more energy, which is phenomenal for me. And, my weight isn't bouncing back up in lbs, but in fractions of lbs. I'm hoping to hit a new decade in a few days, first time in months. Started this morning with a bowl of Maggie's cereal, could only eat half of it. Decided I needed the fiber today.......(if ya know what I mean.) |
