Hi April WTG on the 4 weeks! I had an off plan weekend but I am back on track this morning. I'm up 3 pounds from the weekend but I expect it will be gone by the end of the week.

I just read an interesting item on CarbWire. A researcher in London has found a hunger-controlling hormone called peptide YY (PYY) that is present when protein is eaten. So, those of us who eat low carb are controlling our hunger and cravings because of the protein we eat, and it's been verified with this research.

http://livinlavidalocarb.blogspot.co...or-weight.html

She did research with both a high-fat and a high-carb diet, but neither produced PYY, only the diet rich in protein. And because the appetite was suppressed, fewer calories were consumed.

Mice injected with PYY immediately began losing weight. Thought this was an interesting study.

OK, I'm ready to give this another shot! This morning I made a skillet breakfast with sausage, eggs, & cheese. Cup of coffee with cream. The only thing that I am going to allow myself (besides caffeine) that's not recommended the first week is cream cheese. I think it allows for a little more variety, so maybe I won't be so tempted to give up. Plus, it's not so high in carbs that it'll totally sink me, I don't think. I made some of the cream cheese breakfast bites (similar to mock danish) and they are a total life-saver! A little sweet with the protein I need to keep going!

My downfall seems to be evenings, suppertime & after. It's just so easy to go pick up a burger & fries. Well, the burger would be OK, w/out the bun. It will be so much easier after today, because John will be out of town for a couple of days, and I will be able to eat my way. :fork: He has been supportive in that he bought me a bunch of meat for the week!

I think maybe I'll boil a few eggs & make a chef salad (heavy on the meat, cheese, & egg) for lunch. Sounds yummy! The only drawback is there is some shredded carrot in the prepackaged salad, but I don't think it'll be a problem.

Once you get going with this plan, you'll find that you don't really need to snack in the evenings. The time may actually come that you forget to eat! This more strict version really does help to curb the appetite.

I wouldn't worry about the little bit of carrot you'll have in the salad mix; it can't be much, and probably more fiber than carbs, anyway.

You might try what we do, buy a big package of hamburger patties and have John grill them, then package them in foil and you'll have lunches and suppers all ready, all you have to do is nuke them, and have a salad or veggie with them. I've had them heated, had them cold cut up on a salad. They are the easiest, quick meal available. We buy 2 of the 20-packs at WalMart. We prefer the 85-15 mix, but the 80-20 is ok, too, they just flare up more on the grill because of the extra fat. They cook a lot faster, too, so you have to be careful about not burning them.

As long as you're not overdoing the cream cheese, you should probably be ok. Oh, and make sure you're getting all that water, you'll really need it.

I decided against a chef salad, going instead with some steak and a small side salad. John had bought me a great-big package of boneless round steaks (thin cut) and they were starting to turn, so I just cooked them all up & had a couple for lunch. I may need to use up a couple of avocados this week as well, but I'm going to wait until they just have to be eaten.

I LOVED...... can you say...... LOVED living in TX. I could find alvocados on any given day there...... and not the nasty type I get in the midwest.... yes, even in the summer. Sometimes the journey is more difficult than others, but it all pays off in the end! Sorry, I just highjacked a thread I am not even involved in!

I'm not sure how long ago this was written but I would love to have a partner on this low carb journey. I do well for a while but can't seem to stay on the path. I get inpatient and want to see the results faster. I think no, I know I'm being to easy on the low carb diet. Eating fried chicken ( battered to the max!!) and saying well I'm not having the potatoes so it's okay. Thnwondering why I'm not losing. SO getting back to the basics is a great idea. I'm persuing an acting career and I want to feel confident about myself all around. I'm going to be hearing a lot of no sorry you didn't get the part, and I don't want it to be easy for me to blame myself, my weight. I also don't want to get into any dangerous behavior patterns. I want to be healthy, thinner and I'm ready to commit. I'm going to start tommorow (9/13). Hope to hear from you soon. Hope my babble makes some sense.

Welcome, Ceenetah. My advice to you is to buy a book, read it through, take notes, keep it handy for reference, then decide on your menu, shop, and do not buy anything that's not on your plan, and stay away from the faux foods (like the "low carb" bars). Eat fresh foods, try to avoid the processed ones.

I'm finding it helpful to keep a food and exercise diary. Every day I write down what I've eaten, and what exercise I did. Then if I stall, I can look back and see what might be the culprit.

And, don't forget to drink your water!!!!

I will be joining y'all on friday, but I have a question, did you count your carbs for the first week or two, or just eat what you are susposed to and not worry about the counts....

Carolyn, for Level 1, you follow the book, eating only meat, eggs and cheese and up to 2 cups of loosely packed salad a day. And fats, except, of course, transfats. Then you add 5 gms of carbs a day for a week or 2, then another 5 per day, gradually adding them back until you reach the point you are no longer losing, then back down so that you are losing slowly and steadily. That's the general idea. Level 1 is essentially 0 carbs to get your metabolism burning your own fat instead of carbs.

If you don't already have the book, apparently you can get one on amazon.com or ebay. Mine's at least 25 years old, well worn but still intact.

thanks nita, but things like coffee, cream, eggs all equal carbs when you put them in fit day, so do you just not count anything

Hi Carolyn...The premise of the induction phase of the '72 version is that if you follow the induction food list to the letter you will be under 20 carbs total per day including any small amounts that you get from coffee, etc. You simply eat meat, eggs, cheese (up to 4 oz per day) and fats as Nita said, and 2 cups LOOSELY packed salad greens per day. Heavy cream is limited to 4 teaspoons per day. As you move into the OWL phase of the diet you will eed to begin counting carbs...but for induction there is no need to count as long as you stick to the list. Hope that helps some.

I probably use a lot more cream than I should, but I'm still losing. Perhaps a little slower than I could, but still....
