Just a quick question, I hate lettuce and other lettuce type foods so can I eat a combination of cucumbers/tomatoes/tiny amout of olives/tiny amount of cheese and still be okay with this version of atkins? I don't have the book.

This is from an earlier post that April was so kind to do for us. It's the exact list of induction foods just the way it appears in the original book. I thought it was worth repeating here for the benefit of those of you who are joining us and don't have the book yet.

Chris...I think the cucumbers would be fine but I would keep the quantities of the tomato low. Tomatoes are higher in carbs than most salad veggies.

I finally got my 1973 Atkins book. Well, 1972 but this copy published in 1973. It's in good shape but has that old book smell. I'm going to spend tonight and tomorrow night reading and probably most of Saturday. Since I get paid tomorrow it's perfect timing. I can get to the store and stock up on what I need.

This is the way it's been for me too. But I think it's my fault for not paying attention to hidden carbs/sugars. I feel I was doing great in the beginning but lately I've been disappointed in how I'm doing overall. I've had some success but I'm impatient and I really want to get down on weight. I need to get rid of my belly. I have some upcoming events planned for spring and I would love to be alot thinner for those events.

i am in for the back to basics....

weighed in last week at 293 (down one from my last weigh in)

did food prep last night, hard boiled eggs, cooked some bacon for some blt type of salads, taco meat for some taco salads, so all is well, (also made some sf jello for a treat - can't remember if that is on the list of things to eat...)

was planning to go to the gym this morning, but had my monthly night of insomnia... so slept in till almost 8:30 am and then got to work by 9: 10

OK I read the whole book yesterday. Started out and then cheated already

But today is a new day. The original book is very interesting. What first caught me was that the stories of weight loss are more dramatic in the new book and the ideal weights were so much lower back then. Then the carb counts were also different. With the first week being almost zero and then adding five a week so you wouldn't even get to 20 for a few weeks. I know I'll do much better getting started on the old school Atkins during the week since it's much harder for me when I sit at home. Even though there's a lot of crap to eat at work I'm busy enough for it not to get to me when I try just a little.

Monday & Tuesday I was really good during the day, but the evening meal is what did me in. Monday night was Olive Garden--need I say more? But I did ok, and I didn't really go overboard. My meal was the mixed grill. I had a few bites of the potatoes, and I did have a couple of breadsticks. No dessert, but I had a Limoncello Lemonade to drink. Yesterday evening was Pancho's Mexican Buffet. I had mexican food--nuff sed!

So today I'm back to basics. Had KFC with the breading removed + a McD's side salad for lunch. Haven't even thought about supper yet.

Hi all!
I'm in on this one!
I didn't even realize I was doing the "old" diet, but I am-- it's just much simpler & easier for me. I'm on day 3 and I have no appetite. I had to force myself to eat something for lunch b/c i have medicine to take that requires food in my belly! I am not hungry at night looking for snacks. It's fantastic!

I have been eating lots of tuna fish, salmon, chicken and salad. I don't eat much cheese b/c i just don't have a taste for it. I know I use more cream than what is allowed, so tomorrow I am going to measure it & see if I can take my coffee with less.

Here's to good eating!

Hi all...I haven't posted in here for a few days but I am still at it. This week has been crazy so I haven't been to curves, which is where I weigh in....so I don't know how I'm doing weightwise....but it feels like everything is going in the right direction. My rings and clothes continue to get looser.

Looks like everyone has had a challenging time of it lately, judging by the posts. I've had a hard time staying on plan this week as well. DH brought home a bag of choclate chip cookies which have been haunting me. I haven't given in but, oh man, I've WANTED them!!! Last night I decided to allow myself some almonds and macadamia nuts....I had too many but at least they are a healthy alternative to junk food. I had to have SOMETHING....ya know? Anyway.....I am going on a retreat this weekend so I'm trying to stay really on plan until then because I don't know what will be available at the retreat and it's very likely that I'll be off plan while I'm there.

Jess....I am one who LOVED heavy cream in my coffee. I recently weaned myself off of it. I started by just slowly decreasing the amount of cream that I used until it was a teaspoon or less. Then one day I just didn't put any...and you know what?......My coffee tasted fine. I honestly enjoy it just as much now without the cream. I still allow myself a cup or two a week with some cream in it as a treat...usually in the evening......but it takes much less cream now to make it taste rich and creamy. I know that cream is pretty low in carbs but it's like drinking straight fat and it really packs in the calories....I found that when I gave up the regular use of cream the weight started coming off again. Just thought my experience with this might encourage you some

Today is day four on OAP for me and I am LOVING it. Not so much the lack of my flaxseed meal but loving the water weight coming off from my 8 day indiscretion so quickly.

Vickie, Xander made chocolate chip cookies at school Tuesday and brought them home yesterday. Since he won't eat them and I can't let myself I gave them to the kids at daycare. I'm sure they loved them. But they did look and smell (even through the plastic bag) too yummy.

Another great day!
Vickie, I am a cream addict! I love love love how it makes my coffee taste. I take a huge mug of coffee with me to school & sip on it all morning-- my coffee mug holds 6+ cups. The kids all tease me about how big it is! Anyway, I do like your idea, because I know the cream is just fat & a huge waste of calories. I'm going to try to use less & less.

Good job on saying NO to the cookies, ladies!

Hang in there, beamhive!

Enjoy your Thursday evening! Tomorrow is FRIDAY!!!

I L-O-V-E cream in my coffee. I always say that I'll take a little coffee with my cream!
