Super Idea.. and great motivator.. I am in week three or I would gladly take you up on it, I am still trying to keep pretty close to the 20 carbs but go over a tiny bit, will keep checking in to see how you are doing... My suggest would be-clean out the house with everything carb rich... shop for everything carb low... and go....

Thanks, for good idea! I am definitely cleaning out house.

This challenge is for anyone on induction, the challenges of new people are helped by people already on it, and the plateaus of longer induction members are helped by the enthusiasm of the new. Any suggestions or advice is completely welcome.

Well so good so far. I had eggs with cheese, onion and bacon for breakfast. That is something I would NEVER allow myself to have. Its nice to finally eat breakfast and enjoy it because its not making me fat!!!

I did have 1 cup of decaf with 4 sweet n low in it and half and half. Do I count each sweet n low as a carb? If someone knows please let me know.

How much weight have you lost in your 3 weeks of induction?

Cleaning house is always a good way to start.

Most of us count 1 carb for each packet of artificial sweetener. The sweetener itself is carb free, but they have to add other agents to bulk it up and that generally comes to a bit less than one carb per packet. Don't forget the half&half has a carb count, too.

Just a general reminder for induction stage: Lots of water and don't forget your veggies! Best bet for veggies is to take advantage of your full 3 cups of raw greens.

I'm not sure if I am on track with induction. This is what I ate on my first day

Breakfast - Omelet with cheddar & onion, decaf coffee with half n half 3 sweet n lows
Snack - chicken salad over lettuce and tomato
Lunch - salad with chicken, cucumbers, kidney beans (I forgot I couldn't have them yet), diet soda (plus dressing that maybe 4 - 6 carbs)
Snack - decaf coffee with 3 sweet n lows
Dinner - Salmon and broccoli
Dinner (1:00 am) - oxtail with cabbage and carrots (restaurant), diet coke,
Medium Dunkin Donuts decaf Iced coffee with half n half and 4 splendas

I didn't realize how much I do eat in a day. Also I tend to stay up until 3 or 4 am in the morning, so that causes additional eating I think. Is this a proper induction menu? Do I have to give up my beloved DD iced coffee while on induction?
All suggestions and critiques are welcome! I really want to do this right.

Good morning Sunshine--hope that your Thursday is a good one.. I got weighted today because I am leaving for the weekend... I have lost 13 pounds in the first 3 weeks, I can't believe it, I put on jeans last night that I well who knows how long it has been since I had them on.....lol.... and they were even comfortable, didn't have to lay on the bed to get them zipped.....

You menu doesn't look bad, like you know the beans I wouldn't have and I have started eating my salads without dressing on them, or at least get the dressing on the side and dip your salad, you won't believe how much less dressing you use, one more thing are you using the "real" mayo stuff for your chicken salad, I love Mircle whip but have changed that to to the real stuff.. -0- carbs.... didn't notice any water on your list, that is very important also because you need to flush all that sugar out of the body...... find a really good list of low to no carbs and stick to it like glue.. you will be amazed at how food tastes with the sugar out of your body.... we can do this....... Good luck this weekend, we are meeting some friends at a huge Casino for the 3 days, I hope that I can stick to it, I know that I have to have a couple drinks but no beer will have the hard stuff and diet pop for the weekend.. I can fall now....... Ginger

Hello latoyale,

I would like to join you on this journey. I am also a newbie. My start day wouldn't actually begin until Sunday July 6.

I plan on weighing myself in the morning and measuring the body parts that need to be measured. I will try and post these tomorrow. I know people say to stay away from the scale, but that's much much easier said than done. You people that are addicted to the scale know what I mean. I am going to try and not weigh myself until the following Sunday (July 13).

I am a carbohydrate addict. My main reason for doing this is to see if my carb cravings will diminsh like they do for other people. I hope they do.

Let's do this!

Today is my first day of induction. In preparation for my new way of eating, I pigged out on carbohyrdrates these past two days. I know I shouldn't have done that, and let me tell you my body is letting me know that this morning. I feel just awful!!!

I have done low carb eating before and I always feel so much better while doing it. I don't know why I go back to my old eating habits (high carbs, processed foods) when that way of eating makes me feel terrible. Maybe this time I can finally do it. I am hoping that by posting my daily experiences here and having the support of others will help me successfully finish this 14 day challenge.

Hey welcome!!

Don't get discouraged and don't give up! You are doing the first step, which is realizing you have a problem and then finding a plan to fix it. You didn't gain weight overnight, so don't expect to loss everything overnight. It will take time.

Also beware of the perfectionist mindset. Sometimes we want to do everything perfect on a diet, I know I do!!! But when we mess up or "fail" we resort back to our old eating habits. But we all must focus on that fact that we are each making change to our eating habits for the rest of our life.

I've noticed that I start binge eating cause I know I am starting "tomorrow". On these binges I can literally gain 2 - 3 pounds. But its not worth it, because if I "fail" again tomorrow, I binge all over again. Tell yourself its OK. It's not that you can't have the food, you just can't have it at this time while your going through induction.

Even it you have trouble with Atkins induction, be happy in the fact that you have started to reduce your carb intake!! Good job!

If you need anymore help let me know. Your not alone!!

Happy Monday Ladies...
Hope that you had a good holiday weekend.. We had a wonderful time, and the best things was that everybody noticed that I had lost weight, and only 13 pounds... I was pumped! And it wasn't hard to stick to the LC plan even while traveling.. there was always something somewhere that I could much on, I took a loaf of the Delightful's bread to our hotel room and if I was hungry I just had that... it worked out great... I was amazed at how easy it did work out... We did lots of walking and I ever spend about 3 hours in the pool with my Cuz one afternoon, and the whole time we chated we kept moving our arms and legs... thinking that I was getting some good out of it.. I did have to sneak on the scale this am to see if there was any damage because I did have a couple rum/diet soda's, but the scale was my friend and was the same as last Thursday when we left, I can feel the fluid because I didn't drink the water that I should have so I am hoping that by Friday the scale is even better.....

One of the things that I really have done with the cravings part--not only did they stop completely after the first week, and I feel better, but I don't tell myself that I can't have something, I just say that I have to wrok it into my meal plan for the day and the carb count, like if I want lo-carb ice cream 1/4 cup it takes most of my carbs for the day, and since I don't really care for meat that much I think well if I eat meat and only meat today then I would be able to have that little bit of ice cream, usually I end up skipping the ice cream and taking the veggies instead.. and I was a candy/ice cream freak just 3 short weeks ago.... that is about all that I ate, candy and ice cream..... no wonder I am where I am... huh...lol....

Coffee Re: Atkins Induction 14 day challenge

Lacy-Welcome.

A couple of tips to help you get started on the right foot, so to speak:
  • the more carbs you inhale before you start, the harder induction is and the longer you feel crummy (the "induction flu" where your body detoxes from the sugar) - i'm not criticizing, just saying for future reference. it does increase the challenge and not just because of more weight to lose.
  • if you eat something offplan, do NOT tell yourself you've blown anything and do NOT declare the rest of the day offplan and you'll restart tomorrow. just continue like it never even happened. your booty doesn't know what time of the day it is or what you had for breakfast at dinnertime. it only knows what you're feeding it now...the only way you can blow this is to stop doing it, so you haven't blown anything. you just slow your progress down with offplan choices.
laytoyale is very right-on with the whole perfectionist, diet mindset idea. if you are on a DIET, you can fail. if you just eat low carb because it agrees with you, then you can't fail. diets end. just the way you eat doesn't.

and yes, if you stay away from the carbs for a few weeks, the cravings do go away. if you go back and forth, however, many people find that periodic carbfests will increase both appetite and cravings. it really does work a lot like any kind of addiction.

and ginger's idea of not telling yourself you "can't" have something can also be very helpful. you can eat whatever you want. but once you have experienced the benefits of making healthy choices for a while, the lure of this other stuff just kind of disappears after a while. you realize it's not worth what it costs you.

plus, if you stay on plan for a week or two, the stuff you used to love will NOT taste good anymore many times. there are definitely gifts for those who follow their plan!

keep up the good work, gang! you're doing super.

DAY ONE of INDUCTION (14 days to go)

Hello to everyone!!

Latoyale thanks for all of the support!! Today has been a good day. I even went to the grocery store and came so close to buying ice cream. I even had it in my cart, but then put it back. I thought to myself, "Hey, you don't need that stuff anymore unless on a special occasion".

When I am out in public and with my friends I have no problem skipping the dessert or the bread at a restaraunt. I really have no desire for them. However, when I am at home I have an extremely hard time controling myself. I think that it's best for me just to not have stuff like that around the house. I can't just stop at a 1/4 of a cup of ice cream. I wish that I could. Maybe my cravings will decrease like yours did, Ginger and Goddess. Ginger, congratulations on your weight loss so far, isn't that a wonderful feeling when someone notices that you have lost weight?

That's why I'm doing the induction. Not really for weight loss (of course that will be great) but to control my carb cravings. I never used to be so obsessed with food. Only in the past year has this happened. I have gained about 20 pounds this past year. Anyways, thanxs for the advice and the support ladies!!! It really helps. Day 1 of induction is coming to a close soon, and I am ready for Day 2!!!!
