Tellbee - Yes I think I feel better after 10 or 15 minutes of wealking. I just have alow grade fever and some aches.

I did go back out for another walk and did 15 minutes to make it an even one hour for the day.

Tia - Thanks. I think I'm setting my goal lower this month. I think 75 or 80 will do nicely.

Like I said, Rob... with September being a shorter month and all, I think 75-80 is a perfect goal.

You do us proud!

Ok I'm joining this again for the month of September. I did 2 miles today. Not sure if I can walk everyday but I'm sure that moving from a third floor apartment into my newly built house will be considered exercise...right??

UGH....It's been raining for 3 DAYS STRAIGHT!! I'm having a hard time squezzing in walks between thunderstorms! Oh, well - It's County Fair time (don't you just love small towns) and I'm going tonight - surely chasing a rambuctious 2 year old around the fair will get me some exercise.

I can sympathize Tia, rainy days make walking a pain. County fairs require a lot of walking so see evrything twice.

Humidity was stifling when I went this morning and i managed to walk 40 minutes., So i went out later and did another 15. But I'm housesitting 7 cats and a golden retriever since Monday morning and the house is about 3000 square feet on 3 floors. There's one cat with one kitten locked in the master bedroom suite. anotehr cat is kept in another 3rd floor bedroom because he (mookie) and Elvis fight. So i have to switch them so mookie gets some free roaming time. So there are 3 cat litter boxes that neeeded to be kept clean. there are 3 different brands of canned food the cats get depending on which room they're in. The dog and my dog needing walks 3 times a day, including one long exercise walk for them. Popeye (cat) has a wound from a cat fight and i have to force feed him a pill twice a day and wash the wound. 2 cats have hidden from me since i got here and i have no idea where they are. I vacuumed the carpets on the top 2 floors today since they are coming back tonight. as well as cleaned all 3 baths and swept and mopped the kitchen and bathrooms. Am i exhausted! Did I do all this for free - do i look crazy. lol. But I'll be leaving as soon as their 17 year old daughter gets home from school and am I ready to relax.
Sorry to go on so.
Rob

Sorry about that . do you accept walking on a tread mill?. We are way out in the country and I walk the property but not out on the dirt roads much. we also are up the side of a mountain which is great for going downhill but I'm just too old and out of shape for that uphill climb.

Hi Rob, I really need to join your walking challenge. I have been doing Atkins for a year now, and have never really exercised. What advice can you give a newbie like me about walking. How many minutes should I walk a day to startout. How much should I increase everyday ?? weeK?? etc.

I haven't stopped walking, though I haven't gone on an actual 'walk' for a few days. Yesterday, I was down at Asilomar (near Monterey) for a conference planning meeting. After the meeting I walked all over the grounds for a good hour. Then, of course, I had to slip down to Carmel-by-the-Sea and give all those lovely shops a vote of confidence! More walking - up and down hill, too!

Today, though, I'm planning to get back to real walking-for-walking's sake. I need to go to Peets to buy coffee, so I'll walk there and back - that's two miles if I go the short way, but I often walk up and down the neighborhood streets along the way. I'll go out of my way to walk on a shady street, and I enjoy looking at people's yards and houses.
