Okay now this is like an episode of twilight zone. Am I the only one left or is everyone on vacation?

took the day off and am glad I did. Computer problems and doing favors took up all my time today anyway.

Hey Hope, Teelbee, Mona, Tia, Tammie, Shannon
where did Y'all go? It's been lonely. I can't do this alone.

I had one of the best walks I've had in years.
wasn't fast because it included climbing fences, ducking under ropes and running from bees. okay the bee running part was quite fast.
The weather was amazing. sunny, upper 70's but breezy. Started on the mountain bike trails and then walked over fields to get to the horse trails. I didn't want to stop even when my feet
were killing me. Even did a quick circle of an environmental habitat with a no tresspass sign.
did 5.6 miles in one hour and 45 minutes. and went home and slept 3 hours. lol

Hi! (reporting from the wings...)

It's not that I'm not walking at all, and I played a heavy set of badminton Thursday, but the last couple of days, it's been too hot to walk during the day and I had things to get done in the evenings.

I want to walk today, but DH and I are both tired from having a late dinner party last night. Ugh! and the heat! It has been in the high 90s. Tomorrow is supposed to start a cooling trend (I CANNOT WAIT!).

Maybe we'll manage a short walk after sundown. It was lovely outdoors at 12:30 am this morning.

epilog: we did get out for a short (25-30 min.) walk tonight. It was warmer out tonight than last night. Please, please send back the coastal morning fog tomorrow !

Ah, still warm here, but much less hot than yesterday!

DH and I went out for an hour+ walk today.

Glad your back Teelbee.

Didn't walk yesterday but walked 4 miles today.
The humidity is horrid and I nearly gave up after 30 minutes. We're anticipating the hurricane before the weekend so I figured I better get some miles in while I can.

Rob, I'm crossing my fingers that the hurricane veers away from you!

Living on the west coast, my experience with hurricanes is quite limited. When I was in college, I had a summer job in Provincetown, MA. We just got missed by a hurricane. I went out for a bit before it was due and I was completely amazed by the power of the wind. When I was walking with the wind, it was like wearing 7-league boots - thrilling! But, when I turned to go back, walking into the wind, it took all my strength to make any headway at all.

Happily, the weather has cooled off here a lot - the high was supposedly 81 today, but it didn't feel that warm to me. Tomorrow is supposed to be in the mid-70s - nice!

We were supposed to go to a dance class tonight, but DH begged off. Instead, we walked to the Avenue (a little shopping district) after dinner. He got a latte, but I didn't want to take a chance even with decaf macchiato so late in the day. It was a good 40-minute walk, though.

Hi Rob, I was away on the weekend, and honestly did not have time to walk. I was in the car for 13 hours. Anyway, I am back, and although it rained yesterday, I got my lunch hour walk in today, so I am still hanging in.

Got a silly question. Is there a device that measures how far you walk? is it a pedometer? and where does one buy one. Do you know ho much they cost? Anyone?

Teelbee
The latest news is the hurricane MAY miss winston-salem but I'm adopting a wait and see attitude. Luckily we're a couple hundred miles inland so hurricanes usually lose most of their power by the time they hit. But then there was HUGO.

Mona-13 hours driving has to count for something (besides a stiff neck and a sore ---).
Yes it;s cal;led a pedometer and you can pick one up at any sporting goods shop, probably many department stores. Walmart probably has them. I think it was Teelbee who bought the talking pedometer. I have 2 but the most accurate one is a K+R and is made in Germany. POicked that one up for $3 at a yard sale. I suspect it cost more than a cheaper model, thoughnot as much as a talking one. You can probably pick one up for under $10.00. Just remember to calibrate it carefully.

Rob - great you walked all the way around the lake, 7 miles. You'll have enough miles banked that you can afford to stay in for the whole weekend if The hurricane hits.

LOL! Rob, I talk to myself, too. I guess the malls will all be closed if the hurricane is threatening, won't they? Just as well to get in a few longer walks now, I'm sure. Besides, Sophie has so much fun!

I didn't buy the talking pedometer, but I posted a link to it after someone asked about pedometers. I thought it would be a hoot to go walking around the neighborhood having a conversation with with it. It would be really disconcerting for the neighbors:

(ped)"YOU HAVE NOW WALKED 3.2 MILES."
(me) "No, you are mistaken. I've walked this route a dozen times and I know this is the 3.5 mile mark - you must have missed calculated or missed some steps."
(ped) "YOU ARE SLOWING DOWN. YOU HAVE NOW WALKED 3.3 MILES."
(me) "No, no, no! You aren't paying attention! I'm quite sure I've gone over 3 and a half miles. I don't think I'm going any slower, either."
(ped) "YOU HAVE NOW WALKED 3.5 MILES."
(me) "Well, I'm glad you see it my way."

I have an old Weight Watchers pedometer, but I never felt I had it calibrated correctly. Besides, my stride varies a lot depending on how fast I'm walking or wether I'm walking with someone else. So, I don't use it.

Today, I played badminton instead of walking - so, now I'm pooped.

LOL@teelbee and her amzing trained Pedometer.

At last report winston-salem will be spareda direct hiy by Isabel. Yeah! But we will probably get residual rainfall and 25 to 35 mph winds. eek! That's windy enough to bring in the lawn furniture.

Mona - I forgot you were in Canada so do the money conversion. Do you even have walmart in Canada?

Walking went well today - did 3.5 miles.
Just totaled up my monthly mileage and came up with 57.5. so I'm ahead of the game and can afford a few days off for rain.

Bon-I'm betting you've been working your tail off.

DH and I went to our Scottish country dance class. It's a 2-hour class and the jigs and reels can get pretty energetic so I skipped walking today.

Rob, good luck with the storm, I hope it peters out even more before reaching your area.

Mona, good luck with the pedometer. Just for the record, I do not have a talking pedometer, LOL! I just read about it in a catalog.

I won't be reporting daily for a while, but I'll still be keeping track and checking in with you guys about twice a week.

Hurricanes - what a great excuse to be lazy! Even when they miss where you live.
Well I did clean under the microwave and That's a chore that's only done once a year. Also making Sharron's Carne and the smell is driving me crazy.

walked about 3.25 miles today but I forgot my pedometer and the course doesn't have mile markers. So It's just an estimate.
How is evryone else doing?
