    Junie and Mada - excellent!

It is a wonderful thing to sleep soundly, I have almost every night for the past few months. Of course, this is Sunday and I woke up at 4 am. I guess it gives me a little time here at the computer.

Star - did they sign your biceps? :->

I have been on track with my exercise now for a week. It is feeling good. I have seen a loss of one pound and am not sure about inches yet.

    Oh yeah, Monday morning!

I went out and bought a weight bench and weights this weekend. It's an Olympic set, if you know what that means, and the bench has a few attachments like leg extension and hamstring curl, and a bench press rack.

I did my first official Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle (BFFM) type workout this morning, concentrating on Upper Body. I held it to 2 sets of 8 reps each, just so I don't kill myself the first week. I also warmed up with 5 min on the treadmill beforehand.

One downside is that I only have room OUTSIDE for my equipment, so it'll be interesting when it's 20 degrees out as to how motivated I'll be. It's in a nice sheltered area, but open to a bit of breeze, which Hood River is famous for.

I definitely felt fatigued in the upper body after this morning's work, but kind of excited about it.

I've also officially gone off Atkins, and am following the eating plan from BFFM. Yesterday was cheat meal day, and I had italian sausage lasagna and garlic bread for lunch after golf. (sorry to mention that).

Meechel - you sound so pumped up re: the bodybuilding, that's great! I may email you with a few questions.

Izzy - keep it up, you're gonna love the results in a month!

    Hi John!

I'd like to join the group. I also just got weights this weekend. My goal is weights 3 times a week and cardio 3 times a week. I'm a total newbie with weights, but I have a program to try and I'm excited about it. Thanks for the challenge!

    Chris,

Hi! The best part of this challenge is making yourself write down your goals, then sharing how your daily trials and tribulations go. Which program are you doing?

    Hi John!

Well, I'll try to answer your question. I developed my "plan" from reading on the Internet. However, I'm open to suggestions on adopting a new plan. Basically, I gathered up exercise information for using weights for a fully body work out. Many web sites suggested that one work with weights one day and do cardio the next so that’s my plan. So on M, W, F, I plan to a couple of sets of 8-12 reps of each of the exercises on my sheet or for 20 minutes whichever is longer.

On Tues, Thurs, and Sat, I plan to do at least 30 minutes of cardio at a target heart rate of 70 to 80%. I’m 32 so my specific goal is 141. I already do the cardio by walking with a bit of jogging with our two dogs.

I didn’t know that I’d get the weights so quickly because I didn’t know that hubby had any. I was surprised and excited so I searched for a plan that same day, but I’d be open to adopting another plan. Please let me know if you see a flaw in my weight lifting plan.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Your plan sounds great. I'm doing exactly that, MWF are weights, TTHSat are cardio, Sunday off.

I'm also doing 30 minutes of hard work cardio, with a 3 minute warmup and warmdown added.

It sounds like you're doing a one day full-body workout 3 times a week, which is great. I was doing that plan the last 6 weeks. Now, I've split mine up into 2 parts, upper body , and lower body (with a few twists). I alternate workouts, so I hit upper body twice some weeks, and once others.

At this time, I've also stopped the Atkins diet and have gone onto a different, although very healthy, way of eating. Many folks, especially if they have a good deal of body fat to lose, continue on a low-carb program.

Junie - way to stay the course through adversity, and not make it an excuse not to exercise.

Cardio day, it was soooooo hard getting up this morning. I walk outside on the treadmill, under our deck. It was nice listening to the rain pounding down up above today, really seemed like fall. I did a HIIT workout today, 2% incline at 4.2 mph for 2 min, 10% incline at 4.2 mph for 1 minute, and so on, total 25 min. I was really glad when it was over.

Thanks for the tips on weights, star...I really am getting a feel for the routine, I guess I just need to do it now :->

I am still on track with my exercise. Today will be tough as I need a 60 minutes aerobic workout and I have bible study right after work! So, this will be a test!
