I'm in, of course. I was bad and blew off the last 4 days of January - work was heinous. But started February with UBWO - used the same BFL exercises I have been working with, but used slow cadence (10 seconds up, 10 seonds down) and I am finally, finally finding the burn I have been looking for. And it took way less time to reach muscle failure that previously. Slow cadence is the way to go, at least for me.

Happy day, everybody.

Hi everyone,
Started the month off with UBWO, and I tried to get my 25 minute HIIT routine done in 23, didn't quite make it, maybe it had something to do with the 12oz. curls yesterday.

John, I made it! I forgot how great beer is after that long without it. I over did it though, I was out by 9pm last night.

This month my personal goal will be every M,W,F in the gym (T,TH = early class) for 12 days total, and 1/2 hr of something on every one of my off days. The other part will be to eat 100% on plan, no more corn chips.

Have a great day everyone,

Jeremy

Count me in this month.... I missed yesterdays' workout - DH had back surgury on thursday and I spent the day keeping him medicated and fed.... and then had to have the fridge dealth with... anyway...

For February I want to swim at least 12 miles, and do Water Aerobics at least 12 times. I also want to try and get to the weights at least once a week... more if possible, but will be happy with once a week this month.
I also want to get to 50 lbs gone (am currently at 39 - so thats 11 lbs this month might be too much to go for, but I am making it my goal.)

I am glad to have this place to come and keep track of my exercises, and hear what other people are doing and getting those great pats on the back, tks everyone for all your support... you keep me going.

Hey Jen, Carolyn, Jeremy, good to see you (cyber-speaking) again.

I did chest/bis today, didn't feel strong, but the alcohol consumption this weekend may have had something to do with it. I did up weight or reps in every exercise, though.

Jeremy, I'm going to give up chips and crackers this month!! I ate a whole wad of them this weekend, so that was not a good thing. I'm up several pounds this morning!!!! I know it'll go away in a couple days, but I haven't done this in months.

I will be working out 4 days a week, weights only. It's the way the Body Rx program is set up. In two weeks, I'll up the protein and fiber, and lower the carb intake, also doing more reps with lower weight and less rest time between sets.

John

Jeremy - I'll get your dollar to you ASAP!!

Good morning,

I haven't decided what todays 30min activity will be yet, but if the weather keeps up it looks like it'll be an hour of snow shoveling.

John, i know what you mean about the chips, they don't effect my blood sugar much (I always know a cheat by the way I feel within a couple hours), but I think they contributed to my long stall.

Anyone looking for encouragement... I've been going to the gym on a regular basis now since mid Oct., heavy cardio and circuit training. Just in the last few weeks people that don't know I work out have been commenting on my changing body. The compliments feel good, but the improved self-esteem and postive mental attitude that have come from exercise far surpass compliments. To any lurkers or posters considering the exercise challenge, join us and change your life for the better!

Have a great day everyone!

Good afternoon to all of you exercise challenge folks here again. Today was back and tris day, not one of my favorites, but done as well as I could.

OK jeremy, I'm gonna give up chips and crackers til March! I'll be expecting a virtual dollar back at that time...

I'm not sure I can do it, though! I love chips, but I know they don't love me. I need to drink more water, too, preferably a gallon a day. It's difficult to keep jumping up and run off to the loo, though.

Good Wednesday morning to you all,

Carolyn, that's a great feeling! I find I miss exercise if I can't do it some day, too. Weird. Whodathunkit?

Day off exercise today. I use these days to cook up some eggs in the morning. Some olive oil, scallions, mushrooms, and eggs, of course, topped off with some green salsa. Yummy. The program I'm doing wants 30 gm. of fiber a day, so I have some All Bran or something similar to go along with it.

Enough food talk...Gotta get ripping on some papers, grades are due tomorrow and I'm behind, as usual.

Good morning all - LBWO out this morning. Still figuring out the slow cadence thing, and I just cannot seem to get a good burn in the legs. Really bugging me. Cardio tomorrow.

just asking.

Golfnut, I had posted this in the Jumpstart exercise forum, and got no answer, maybe you can help out. The post was talking about avid exercisers and the need to eat more carbs, etc... so then I replied:

posted 01-22-04 02:35 PM
Very interested in this line of talk, I am an avid swimmer. This week I made it to 1 mile, I usually swim 4 x a week anywhere from 1/2 mile to 1 mile, and do water aerobics 3 x a week. I am currently doing about 30-50 carb/week (doing atkins). I am eating a half banana in am before going to gym (usually up at 5:30 am and in pool by 6) I eat the rest of my breakfast (usually 2 egg salad.and some cocktail sausage)
around 9am, lunch around 1 is usually salad with ham, cheese, lettuce, veggies - cukes, artichoke hearts, cherry tomatoes, whatever I have on hand, maybe lite 88 yougart, some kind of fruit, strawberries, pineapple, or whatever I have on hand. Dinner is usually 7-8 pm and usually some protien - beef, chicken pork, fish, some cooked veggie, an salad. Sometime I have a little rice, sometime a piece of low carb bread. Sometime some fruit. Since I get up so early my energy level is usually nil around 3pm, dont have problem getting energy for exercise no cramps. I have lost 37 lbs since august and it is usually about 1-2 lbs /week at this point.
My questions:
How do you know how many carbs you should be eating based on your exercise - how do you know if you should be eating more - less, etc. is there some kind of ratio between weight and hours of exercise or somethng like that
At what point in my losing weight will I have to readjust my food - my exercise, ie, when I have lost 100 lbs will I still need to continue on the same 7 day a week routine, or can I continue with 5 or 6 instead and continue to lose to goal.

Any help would be appreciated.
tks

Hi everyone,

I got to shovel snow this morning before the gym, got in 25 mins HIIT cardio, weights today were arms/back/shoulders good burn!

I got some pics to show progress, but I'm techno-retarded and screwed them up. Guess I'll just wait til the end of this months challenge to post them, and work on my photo/upload skills in the meantime.

Have a nice day!

I'm in. I had a good month in Jan and looking forward to similar results for FEB. I plan on lifting weights on M/F and 1/2 hour Ecliptical (sp?) and 15 min walking M-F. I did this same routine in Jan and lost 22lbs. I use the slow burn, power of 10, SAT, method of lifting- my goal this month is to improve on every lift every time out.

LLB, what's SAT? I just started Power of 10 with my own weight training. I must say I am impressed with the 22 lb loss - in all fo January, I lot not a stinkin' pund and not a single inch, and I was committed!!! Of course, I haven't lost anything since September, so it was no big deal, I guess.
